U.S. Coast Guard Squadron One arrives in Vietnam. Squadron One commands the Coast Guard units involved in Operation MARKET TIME and initially includes 17 patrol boats separated into two divisions. Division 11 patrols along the Cambodian and South Vietnamese coasts in the Gulf of Thailand. Division 12 is based at Da Nang and patrols the Vietnam coastline from the 17th parallel, south. The Coast Guard adds a third division, Division 13, in February 1966 to patrol the waters of the Mekong Delta.

During Squadron One’s first year of operations, its personnel board and inspect approximately 30,000 Vietnamese junks and capture over 100 tons of enemy supplies.1
