MACV Designates Task Force OREGON the 23D Infantry Division (Americal)
September 25, 1967
General Westmoreland and MACV rename Task Force OREGON the 23d Infantry Division (Americal). The Americal Division is assembled from multiple Army units already in-theater, much as its World-War-II Pacific Theater namesake had been. The Americal Division spends much of the Vietnam War fighting in I Corps as reinforcements for the Marines closer to the DMZ.1
