North Vietnam and the United States Begin Peace Talks

American and North Vietnamese representatives meet in Paris to begin peace negotiations. It is the first time negotiators from both nations meet face-to-face. Formal negotiations open three days later, but immediately come to a standstill. The two nations continue to hold talks until 1973.1
