Events

Each year, the League hosts an annual meeting that brings together a wide spectrum of US officials to update the POW/MIA families, veterans, and other Americans on efforts being made and recent progress on the issue. The 2014 meeting will be held at the Hilton Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, from Thursday, June 12th through Saturday, June 15th. Registration will be done in advance with forms being sent by mail after the first of the year. Meeting credentials (name tag, materials, etc.) will be available for pick-up on June 11th after 3:30 p.m. at the Hilton Crystal City.

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

American legion Post 626 is bringing their Traveling Wall to display. Ted is having his own booth, requests materials support to be shipped to him at: Ted Wilkinson 2975 Orangeville Center Road, Warsaw, NY 14569

To welcome home Vietnam Veterans - hosting the Vietnam Moving Wall, the Quilt of Tears and hosted by Defiance College.

This event will educate and reach out to the cub scouts and teach them U.S. history of the Vietnam War and committee members will each the cub scouts how to thank and honor veterans and their families, The Commemorative flag will be displayed and explained and materials will be given away.

Objective #1. AMVETS Hayward Post 911 will be the lead on conducting an event to commemorate 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War by showing our Vietnam veterans, their families, and all who have served the fullest respect and support of a grateful nation. Everyone is invited to attend the event: Veterans, families, citizens, politicians, dignitaries, etc. Groups attending: Vietnam Vets, AMVETS (and their honor/color guard), VFW (& their honor/color guard), American Legion (& their honor/color guard), Marine Corps League, Disabled American Veterans, POW/MIA Families, Patriot Guard Riders, American Legion Riders, Sea Cadets, Boy Scouts, & other veteran related organizations.

Recognize Vietnam Veterans as they attend zoo exhibits

The Division of Veterans Services and the local Chapter of DAV will be setting up a booth at the Cherry Festival for all veterans.

Present medals to 15-20 Vietnam Veterans as part of the baseball pregame salute to veterans.

This event will include meetings with several VSO groups along with community clubs and groups from the Princeton, IL area, focused on Vietnam Veterans and planning two large events occurring later this year in the town of Princeton.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.

Special Recognition service to 26 men and women who serviced in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Thanked and honored Vietnam veterans in Grafton, VT by presenting them with Certificates and pins.
