Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

This is the entry for the 2nd concert: "Two open-air concerts are planned on July 1 and July 8, bookending Independence Day weekend. The first concert is specifically designed to honor veterans currently residing at the local VA hospital.many of whom are Vietnam era. The second is the 202nd Army Band from Ft. Knox. We plan to have a booth to distribute materials about the Commemoration to those attending, especially recognizing those Vietnam veterans in attendance. We are hoping to generate interest in an upcoming exhibit at the local military history museum (currently in the planning stages) and to encourage attendance at a presentation in August at another local museum by a nurse who served in Vietnam We just received confirmation of the concerts on June 17, which is the reason for short notice.

The purpose of a library display is to show honor and appreciation for the sacrifices the military personnel went through during the Vietnam War. Also to educate the general public as the History of the time period.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
