Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Wall That Heals will be hosted by the American Legion Zion-Benton Post 865 for 4 days of events and activities dedicated to honoring and remembering veterans. http://www.buildthecenter.vvmf.org/page/event/detail/thewallthathealsevent/jt5

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

The Traveling Wall will be visiting Ludington, MI. The Michigan Dunes Chapter, NSDAR will be hosting a "Welcome Home" Vietnam Veteran event.

Illinois Dept of Veteran Affairs will have a table with our materials on display at the 10 day fair.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We walk for those who no longer walk, We speak for those whose voice is still. We remember those with memories lost, And we honor those who fell.

We are showcasing the Commemorative flag and program materials that we framed, along with an Army uniform and a vest representing Forgotten Eagles of Michigan, Chapter 2. Two brothers are showcased in the Historical area of the County Bldg, along with the medals each earned and the coffin flag of the brother who gave his life in 1968 in Vietnam. The other brother served in Vietnam 1971-72. The remaining brother gives of his time and energy to help Veterans in many ways in the surrounding area. Our purpose for showcasing these items is to bring awareness to citizens in our county of those who have served and the sacrifices made by the military during Vietnam and their families. Another objective is to bring awareness to the surrounding community of the DAR and our past and continued support of Veterans.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
