Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We will be handing out personalized thank you notes from our Chapter with the pin attached. We work closely with a number of Veterans organizations and will be personally thanking Vietnam Veterans for their service.

Display of momentos left at the Vietnam War traveling memorial honoring fallen comrades by family and friends. The display will have the American Flag above the display case with the POW/MIA and Commemorative flags displayed on either side with a table in front for information.

To provide supplies to the Commemorative Partners in the State of Michigan. Many of our chapters find it difficult to use the website. So many times they come to me looking for supplies. I show them how to work the website to order the supplies, but generally to late to get the supplies in, so they borrow from me.

Thank and Honor Vietnam Veterans

Artist John Steel, Marine combat veteran of WWII and Korea's combat photos will be on display at the Upcountry History Museum.

To interact with Wings Over Houston air show and commerative recreation of a Vietnam battle site. Educate and bring awareness to the 50th anniv. Dave Leemak, Vietnam Combat Marine, Purple Heart recipient, will be the point of contact and provide support and guidance to mission. Potential outreach, 60,000 partiicpants will attend the event in Houston , TX. Dave will be honored with hisown area for commemoration.

We are doing a wall of honor the the Vietnam era veterans with pictures of many, including rank, unit, and branch of service. The entire wall will be dedicated to the Vietnam Veterans.

To recognize service to the United States by all veterans living in Bullard, Texas. There will be a Parade, Classic Car Show, Vendor Booths, Veterans Ceremony, Food Booths & Live Music! Vietnam Veterans will be recognized during the Veterans Program with certificates of appreciation by the Mary Tyler Chapter, NSDAR. Brochures, pins, and bumper stickers will be handed out to attendees to promote the Commemoration.

Our initial 'event' in the community to bring attention to the 50th anniversary celebration. The library will be displaying this all month long in November to coincide with Veteran's day. There will be flags, books and information on the Vietnam War on display. This will be also be exposure to find Vietnam Vets in our community to invite them to our events next spring and fall and subsequent events until 2025.

To bring awareness to the community and to support and honor local veterans

The event was the Legacy of Honor 2014 program. This included the 7th Annual Reunion by Honor Flight Columbus, and The Spirit of Liberty show that honors all Veterans. This was an USO-style show complete with Bob Hope impersonator, music, media, memorabilia, and choirs. Military exhibits and the reunion began at 4:00 p.m. The Tommy Wade Orchestra played big band favorites 20 minutes prior to the 6:00 p.m. show co-hosted by ABC6/FOX28 anchor Bob Kendrick. Near the Military Exhibits we set up a table with the Vietnam Commemorative Display. We also had arranged for buttons, and bumper stickers for both non-military people as well as for Vietnam Vets from the website. At the event we explained the program to parties interested in the program and passed out literature from the website. When we had a Vietnam vet come to our table we pinned on the Commemorative Button for Vets on them and thanked them for their service. Collect food in honor of Vietnam Veterans and raise awareness of homeless and hungry veterans by assisting local food shelters.

We will be honoring Vietnam Veterans with NSDAR certificates. Our speaker is Ian Carter, a highly decorated graduate of the United States Military Academy Class of 1964. Ian will be discussing his book - The Deadliest Weapon- which was written about his tour in Vietnam. In addition we have numerous other attendees who are Vietnam Veterans.

This is our annual salute to National Defense. Dr. Bill McCarron (who served one year in Vietnam) and has written a published monograph on the war, will speak on the war.

Commemoration objectives #1, 3. Personalized NSDAR certificates were presented to Vietnam Veterans at chapter meeting; their family members were invited. Refreshments were served, including a cake decorated in their honor. Speaker presented program on "Flying Tigers and the Vietnam War."

Exhibit to honor 5 soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
