Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We will be handing out personalized thank you notes from our Chapter with the pin attached. We work closely with a number of Veterans organizations and will be personally thanking Vietnam Veterans for their service.

Display of momentos left at the Vietnam War traveling memorial honoring fallen comrades by family and friends. The display will have the American Flag above the display case with the POW/MIA and Commemorative flags displayed on either side with a table in front for information.

Thank and Honor Vietnam Veterans

Artist John Steel, Marine combat veteran of WWII and Korea's combat photos will be on display at the Upcountry History Museum.

To interact with Wings Over Houston air show and commerative recreation of a Vietnam battle site. Educate and bring awareness to the 50th anniv. Dave Leemak, Vietnam Combat Marine, Purple Heart recipient, will be the point of contact and provide support and guidance to mission. Potential outreach, 60,000 partiicpants will attend the event in Houston , TX. Dave will be honored with hisown area for commemoration.

We are doing a wall of honor the the Vietnam era veterans with pictures of many, including rank, unit, and branch of service. The entire wall will be dedicated to the Vietnam Veterans.

Invited to DAR chapter reception in their honor. Veterans physically in Vietnam specially honored but all in that era will be hosted with reception

Our initial 'event' in the community to bring attention to the 50th anniversary celebration. The library will be displaying this all month long in November to coincide with Veteran's day. There will be flags, books and information on the Vietnam War on display. This will be also be exposure to find Vietnam Vets in our community to invite them to our events next spring and fall and subsequent events until 2025.

To bring awareness to the community and to support and honor local veterans

We will be having a program on Vietnam Veterans will be invited to share their experiences

To honor the Vietnam veterans who live at Ohio Veterans Home presenting the certificates and a pin to commemorate the 50th anniversary by Martha Pitkin Chapter. There will also be music and refreshments. Martha Pitkin Chapter of NSDAR and Boy Scouts and Ohio Veterans Home volunteers and the OVH advisory board will volunteer for the event.

Regular DAR Chapter meeting to honor all vets with a "Thank you for your service" coin, thank you note, & NSDAR certificate. Will highlight the support to the deployed active duty military and veterans through DAR Project Patriot and DAR Service for Veterans committees.

To hear Col Ken Brown (Ret.) experiences in US Air Force including the years he spent in Vietnam and to thank and honor him.

Exhibit to honor 5 soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
