Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We will be handing out personalized thank you notes from our Chapter with the pin attached. We work closely with a number of Veterans organizations and will be personally thanking Vietnam Veterans for their service.

Display of momentos left at the Vietnam War traveling memorial honoring fallen comrades by family and friends. The display will have the American Flag above the display case with the POW/MIA and Commemorative flags displayed on either side with a table in front for information.

Thank and Honor Vietnam Veterans

Students will present a special program to our Vetrans and we will have a special recognition for the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Annual Veteran's Day Luncheon with special recognition and thanks to veterans of the Vietnam War. Program presented by American House, DAR Chapter, local Veteran's Club with color guard.

Artist John Steel, Marine combat veteran of WWII and Korea's combat photos will be on display at the Upcountry History Museum.

We are doing a wall of honor the the Vietnam era veterans with pictures of many, including rank, unit, and branch of service. The entire wall will be dedicated to the Vietnam Veterans.

Our initial 'event' in the community to bring attention to the 50th anniversary celebration. The library will be displaying this all month long in November to coincide with Veteran's day. There will be flags, books and information on the Vietnam War on display. This will be also be exposure to find Vietnam Vets in our community to invite them to our events next spring and fall and subsequent events until 2025.

To bring awareness to the community and to support and honor local veterans

We will be giving personalized certificates and pins to our local Vietnam Vets from our local Chapter

We are sponsoring a Vietnam Veteran Commemorative Reception at the local American Legion Post 105 in Bartlesville, OK. We have invited all Vietnam Veterans and their families to attend on Wed, Nov 5, 2014 at 1:15 p.m. We will have refreshments, a speaker, and hand out certificates to each of our veteran attendees.

This is a display at the local library of Wood County, West Virginia to show the KIA from our area and the display of items that would be seen during the time period supplied by the Veterans Museum of Wood County. This to honor those who served, KIA, POWs and MIAs of this conflict.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans

Exhibit to honor 5 soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
