The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

The Mobile Vietnam Veterans Memorial for the Antelope Valley is a 1/2 scale true replica of the DC Wall. 252 feet in length and engraved with all 58,299 names of those KIA, MIA, and POW, it honors those names on the Wall and Veterans of all ages. It is engraved so that rubbings can be made, and fulfills #s 1-3 for the commemorative objectives

The purpose of this event is to honor our "hometown" heros who reside in Farmington. (We have identified 173 veterans who have used the military benefit for property tax exemption. Unfortunately, we have no way of tracking the veterans who are renting in our town. We hope we can reach them through word of mouth and media.) This event is a way to bring these veterans together and give them an opportunity to talk to one another. We plan to serve them breakfast within a 3 hour time frame.

Retired colonel to speak at A-D-M On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 Colonel (Ret.) Ted Severn will be guest speaker at a Veteran’s Day event open to the public at no charge with seating limited to 120. The event will be held at the ADM High School, 801 Nile Kinnick Dr. S., in Adel. It will start at 8:30am with a flag-raising ceremony followed by Col. Severn’s presentation from 9am – 10am in the high school auditorium, and a reception will follow in the ADM school board room. Public parking will be available in the North parking lot - follow the signs - as you enter the ADM campus from the west off of Highway 169. In 1970 then Captain Severn was commander of Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was Private John McClurg’s commanding officer. Private McClurg (Adel High School Class of ‘69) was the last ADM alumnus to be killed in action (KIA). Captain Severn was wounded in action (WIA) in June of 1970 and Private McClurg was KIA two months later on August 17, 1970. John was 19 years, 3 months and 17 days old. Col. Severn will discuss his military career, his experiences in Vietnam and what it was like to serve with a rifle company in a combat zone. The ADM Alumni Association worked with the ADM Middle School Veteran’s Day Committee to arrange for and sponsor Col. Severn’s visit.

The Williamstown Library in Wood County WV will host a small exhibit showing Vietnam War veterans from our area who were killed in action, including one POW/MIA, and one who was awarded the Bronze Star. The exhibit will include some war statistics and photos taken by members of the US military who served in Vietnam. The Vietnam Veterans of America flag will be on display along with small POW and MIA flags, and bookmarks commemorating the Vietnam War will be available for library patrons.

Capt. John Joslin, Jr. Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is the only Commemorative Partner coming forward to participate in events in this area. Our chapter displayed the Vietnam War 50th Commemorative Flag at the front of the auditorium, bringing it out in full view for all to see. This particular Veterans Day ceremony was special in that the City of Leominster presented service medals and certificates from the city to all Vietnam Veterans who entered service from Leominster between 1964 and 1975 or who have resided in Leominster for the past five or more years. In the situation where the Vietnam Veteran is deceased, a family member was given the medal and certificate. None of the materials below were used.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. On Veteran's Day, members of this DAR chapter participated in the Veteran's Day Parade honoring not only Vietnam veterans but all veterans. The float was driven by a Vietnam veteran: Raymond Keith Owen who served 1968-1970 101st Air mobile. It was an honor that he volunteered to do that.

Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.

The script then tells about the program, facts of the Vietnam War and our partnership with the program and the importance of honoring our Vietnam War veterans.
