Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

Vietnam Veteran's and family members from middle Georgia will be invited through repeated press advisories to attend a GMC Cadet parade where they will be honored and offered an opportunity to join cadets during the pass-in-review segment of the parade. The Reviewing Officer will be LTG (R) William B. Caldwell, IV,President of Georgia Military College. Presidential and "City of Milledgeville Georgia" proclamations honoring the veterans will be read.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We will be handing out personalized thank you notes from our Chapter with the pin attached. We work closely with a number of Veterans organizations and will be personally thanking Vietnam Veterans for their service.

There will be special recognition of Vietnam war veterans at the Ceremony during the Great Fair from 2 - 4 pm on Saturday the 15th.

Display of momentos left at the Vietnam War traveling memorial honoring fallen comrades by family and friends. The display will have the American Flag above the display case with the POW/MIA and Commemorative flags displayed on either side with a table in front for information.

Thank and Honor Vietnam Veterans

Artist John Steel, Marine combat veteran of WWII and Korea's combat photos will be on display at the Upcountry History Museum.

We are doing a wall of honor the the Vietnam era veterans with pictures of many, including rank, unit, and branch of service. The entire wall will be dedicated to the Vietnam Veterans.

As we observe the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War, Vietnam Veterans and their families are still being affected by the effects of the defoliants that were used in South East Asia. Veterans, and their children and grandchildren are today, as over the past 50 years, becoming ill or being born with illnesses associated to the defoliants used. Obtain the most current information on the effects of defoliants by joining us online. North Carolina Chapters of Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.(VVA), in partnership with other veteran groups, have been using a Town Hall Meetings to update Veterans and their families on information about Agent Orange and its effects on the Veteran, the Veterans children and the Veterans grandchildren. Thanks to the combined efforts of VVA Chapter #530 and North Carolina Vietnam Veterans, Inc, the Education Campaign is now going digital. Honoring Vietnam Veterans.

Our initial 'event' in the community to bring attention to the 50th anniversary celebration. The library will be displaying this all month long in November to coincide with Veteran's day. There will be flags, books and information on the Vietnam War on display. This will be also be exposure to find Vietnam Vets in our community to invite them to our events next spring and fall and subsequent events until 2025.

To bring awareness to the community and to support and honor local veterans

We will be giving personalized certificates and pins to our local Vietnam Vets from our local Chapter

Vietnam Veterans will be honored all week during the Veterans Day Week at our local Upper Bucks Library. Coordination is given from the Upper Bucks Library and John Rivers VFW Post 11322 to honor Vietnam Veterans with books ,posters,and handouts. The Commemoration flag,posters,and brochures will be avail also. our post will give an oral history if requested.

Honoring all Vietnam Veterans in attendance at the opening of the Seattle University versus Texas State Basketball Season. Game starts at 7pm. Pinning Ceremony sponsored by the SU Veteran Navigator, the Gold Star Wives, and the WA State Gold Star Mothers. Event takes place in Key Arena, Seattle Center.

Thanking, recognizing, and honoring 6 Vietnam Veterans & their families, including one Soldier who was KIA. They will also be awarded the approved certificate issued by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

This is a display at the local library of Wood County, West Virginia to show the KIA from our area and the display of items that would be seen during the time period supplied by the Veterans Museum of Wood County. This to honor those who served, KIA, POWs and MIAs of this conflict.

Seattle University Basketball game requested Washington Veterans Corps and Tahoma Gold Star Wives to present pins to recognize Vietnam Veterans. Objective 1

Recognize, honor, and thank Vietnam Veterans.

The Williamstown Library in Wood County WV will host a small exhibit showing Vietnam War veterans from our area who were killed in action, including one POW/MIA, and one who was awarded the Bronze Star. The exhibit will include some war statistics and photos taken by members of the US military who served in Vietnam. The Vietnam Veterans of America flag will be on display along with small POW and MIA flags, and bookmarks commemorating the Vietnam War will be available for library patrons.

A 2014 Veterans Day event to honor men and women living in Coeur D Alene, Idaho who served in the Vietnam War. The event was planned and hosted by the Lt. George Farragut Chapter members of the NSDAR.

The unveiling of a new exhibit with the Medal of Honor honoring Darke County native Douglas Dickey at 4:00PM. Dickey served in Vietnam during 1967. On March 26, a radio operator was wounded and Dickey was sent to replace him. While a medic worked on the wounded man, an enemy grenade landed in the bunker. Dickey threw himself on the grenade, saving the lives of several others while losing his own life. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his act. A new, improved exhibit honoring Dickey will be unveiled at the program. Medal of Honor recipient Major General James E. Livingston, USMC (Retired), will be the main speaker. Also speaking will be Lt. Col. Tom C. McKenney (Retired), who heard Dickey's story in 1968 from a man who was present when Dickey threw himself on a grenade in Vietnam. The purpose of the event is to honor all veterans and active duty personnel during the week of Veterans' Day. We will hold a special reception prior to the football game. There will be a table for Vietnam Veterans, so we may collect information in order to invite them to all our future events. Vietnam Veterans will be thanked for their service during this reception. There will also be a very special pregame ceremony in honor of our veterans. This will take place on the field during Our National Anthem and performance of America The Beautiful.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans

Exhibit to honor 5 soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. Presentation of Good Citizen awards and ceremony honoring Vietnam Veterans in conjunction with Veteran's Day.

Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.
