Events

The mission of these events is to reach out to Vietnam Veterans and bring them in to discuss Agent Orange and ways the Veterans Services can support these veterans.

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

these events will inform fellow Vietnam veterans and civilians that it will be 50 years since the start of Vietnam war and that multi events will be held to commemorate that date.

We will be handing out personalized thank you notes from our Chapter with the pin attached. We work closely with a number of Veterans organizations and will be personally thanking Vietnam Veterans for their service.

To honor & thank veterans of the Vietnam War, to honor & thank veteran families, will lay wreaths on 5 graves of veterans in Chowan County killed in Vietnam War

Artist John Steel, Marine combat veteran of WWII and Korea's combat photos will be on display at the Upcountry History Museum.

As we observe the 50th commemoration of the Vietnam War, Vietnam Veterans and their families are still being affected by the effects of the defoliants that were used in South East Asia. Veterans, and their children and grandchildren are today, as over the past 50 years, becoming ill or being born with illnesses associated to the defoliants used. Obtain the most current information on the effects of defoliants by joining us online. North Carolina Chapters of Vietnam Veterans of America, Inc.(VVA), in partnership with other veteran groups, have been using a Town Hall Meetings to update Veterans and their families on information about Agent Orange and its effects on the Veteran, the Veterans children and the Veterans grandchildren. Thanks to the combined efforts of VVA Chapter #530 and North Carolina Vietnam Veterans, Inc, the Education Campaign is now going digital. Our initial 'event' in the community to bring attention to the 50th anniversary celebration. The library will be displaying this all month long in November to coincide with Veteran's day. There will be flags, books and information on the Vietnam War on display. This will be also be exposure to find Vietnam Vets in our community to invite them to our events next spring and fall and subsequent events until 2025.

Thanking, recognizing, and honoring 6 Vietnam Veterans & their families, including one Soldier who was KIA. They will also be awarded the approved certificate issued by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans

PWC Supervisor was presented certificate of honor for his service in Vietnam.

Exhibit to honor 5 soldiers who gave their lives during the Vietnam War.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, along with Procter & Gamble, are commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War with an essay contest that provides Vietnam veterans and family members an opportunity to share memories of their local PX/BX experience overseas or back home during the Vietnam War. Exchange gift cards totaling $4,000 will be awarded to four winners. One grand-prize winner will receive a $2,000 gift card, one second-place winner will receive a $1,000 gift card and two third-place winners will each receive $500 gift cards. Collected warm clothing (sweatshirts, Socks,fleece pants, scarves,gloves, hats) and food for the VA Clothes Closet and Food Pantry to give to Veterans (many are Vietnam Veterans)in need, both in-patients and out-patients. Many are homeless or living below the poverty line. The VA Social Workers and Volunteer Services Director handle the distribution.

Samuel Johnston Chapter Members are encouraged to knit and crochet warm scarves for the annual "Knit Your Bit" campaign that is sponsored by the National WW 2 Museum in New Orleans. Chapter members donated 24 hand-made scarves which are given to elderly and hospitalized veterans in VA facilities nationwide. Many are veterans of the Vietnam War. This is a year-round project for several of our Chapter members.

Items collected and delivered to the Mississippi's State Veterans' Home.

The West Texas Collection display included a panel discussion and reception. The display ran from November 17, 2014 through July 31, 2015.
