Events

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

Farmington has over 200 Vietnam veterans living in the community but there is no veterans organization for them to gather and meet. The veterans will be able to to do this when they attend the "Bring your own brown bag" lunches which will be held at the Farmington Town Hall from 11 am to 1 pm the second Wednesday of each month until December 2017. The main focus is to give the veterans a place where they can casually gather and share but a short program will be designed by sometimes inviting guest speakers. The local DAR chapter will present certificates to all Vietnam veterans who attend.

To make veterans and the public aware of the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam war; handing out information on Vietnam veterans issues, agent orange issues, and health concerns for Vietnam veterans. Tabletop display is held at the VA Hospital the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month for 8 hours per day.

Can you add sending 1 set of posters (every one of them). This is for an exhibit he is doing in San Diego that will go till 2017, so I think based on what he’s doing, we can send 1 of everything. Opening ceremony of new permanent exhibit on the Vietnam Experience on the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Exhibits, displays, timelines, oral histories, and personal stories tell the experiences of San Diegans in the Vietnam War on 4/30/2015. Exhibit opens to public on May 1st, 2015.

Quilt making for Vietnam vets in the community including the name and date of service on each one. Then, invited the veteran to a luncheon to present to them with a certificate. This is ongoing.

The State of Arkansas has in excel of 4,000 Masons and half of them are of the age of Vietnam Veterans. This program will go to the major Jurisdictions within the state located in Little Rock, Springdale/Fayetteville, and Jonesboro and then to the smaller lodges dispersed across the state in 11 different districts.

Each week a different Vietnam veteran will be profiled in full-page newspaper features. The profiles are published online at www.trib.com/honor with additional photos, audio and other assets. in 2017, a hardcover book of all the profiles will be published. A book signing event will be hosted and each veteran featured will be gifted a copy of the book by our sponsors and fellow commemorative committee members.

We are working with the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs to award a Certificate of Honor to all local Vietnam Veterans.

To present veterans from Erie Co. New York with certificates from the DAR and label pins to thank them for their service.

Our agency (NYS DVA) advocates and assists Veterans and their families, including conducting numerous and on-going Outreach events, for example- recently honoring female Vietnam Veterans at NYS's Vietnam Veteran Museum. The materials we request will help us to specifically connect with and honor Vietnam Veterans.

The exhibit, created for J.L. Throckmorton Library by the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, focuses on the relationship between U.S. Army Special Forces (SF) and the Montagnards during the Vietnam War. SF Soldiers trained Montagnards, an indigenous people living Vietnam's mountain highlands, as a part of the Civilian Irregular Defense Group (CIDG) program. As a result, SF Soldiers and Montagnards forged strong bonds. After the war, many Montagnard refugees chose to live in North Carolina to be near their Special Forces comrades. The exhibit features Vietnam era Montagnard weapons and cultural objects.

Our Chapter has 5 Veteran Service Officers who assist veterans in filing claims. They would like to extend their thanks to Vietnam Veterans that they assist by presenting them with a lapel pin.

The Memorial is open year round to educate the public on the Vietnam War and the veterans who served in it. It is run by veteran volunteers and supported by various veteran organizations.They would like a commemorative flag to fly at the memorial museum.

I travel throughout an 11 state area and visit with many veterans, their families and various veteran organizations. Am in need of materials to hand out to people so word can spread about the commemoration. Am working on a Purple Heart Event in Branson, Missouri to take place 21-23 April 2016. Last year had 250 Purple Heart Recipients, and their spouses, in attendance, mostly Vietnam veterans.

This will be the 9th annual New York Mets Military Appreciation day which is held in conjunction with Fleet Week New York. Veterans will be lining the warning track, promotion ceremonies on the field, video shout outs, joint services color guard, military/veteran outreach organizations will also be present to provide veterans services

Honoring all invited Vietnam Vets and their families throughout these months. Also having Christmas Party.

Museum is open five days a week to all persons for military history. Large display of Vietnam era.

To thank our Vietnam Veterans and let them know they are not now and never will be forgotten, including their families and also the veterans and families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Purpose of event is to honor the veteran for their service by offering them an opportunity to "come together" once a month to visit with other veterans. Refreshments are provided and there is a guest speaker each month.

Interview VV veterans and publish interviews in "County Life Marshall" magazine. Plan to provide interviewed veterans with a pin and certificate of appreciations. If the veteran has expired, will ask family to provide information regarding their service. Hope to start with this 1 day and continue interviews as Vietnam Veterans are identified.

Lt. Colonel Jerry Ericsson (Ret) spoke at Star of Destiny, NSDAR to relay his experiences as a decorated helicopter pilot in Vietnam and how the war forged the future of his life. As a tribute to him, Star of Destiny has purchased an engraved brick in Lt. Col. Ericsson's name and it has been placed in the Vietnam section of the Veteran's War Memorial, Plaza of Liberty in McAllen, Texas

We would like to order 300 Vietnam Veterans Pins for our members at Vietnam Veterans Chapter 899 located in Bordentown New Jersey. We would like to start this event this Saturday during our monthly meetings until every members have been present a pin.

On Friday, November 13, Take Me Home Huey will begin an exhibition at the Airbase Arizona Museum of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) in Mesa, AZ. The “healing helicopter” will be on display to the public until late January 2016. Maloney’s Take Me Home Huey 42-foot long art installation combines a Huey helicopter used in Vietnam and turned into art for healing with a documentary film, a commissioned Take Me Home Huey song, a growing social media presence and website. A multi-media art project, Take Me Home Huey was created by the artist Steve Maloney from the remains of a UH-1H Huey helicopter that was shot down in 1969 during a medical rescue in Vietnam. The serial number of the Huey is 67-17174; the aircraft is commonly known as #174. The crew chief Gary Dubach and the medic Stephen Schumacher died bravely during the medical rescue attempt. The aircraft was found by Light Horse Legacy (LHL), a Peoria Az. based 501(c)3 non-profit focused on Post-Traumatic Stress. LHL researched, re-skinned and restored the helicopter for Maloney, who then repurposed it into art for healing. The CAF Airbase Arizona Aviation Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of those who have given so much to their country. The art sculpture will honor Vietnam veterans and will be appreciated by veterans and their families, art aficionados and history buffs alike. The museum is open daily from 10:00am – 4:00pm. The Take Me Home Huey art installation and self-guided tour via individual mobile phones at the CAF will be open to the public and free with entrance from 10:00am -4:00pm daily.

President General Young will be honoring Vietnam veterans at every stop during her official travels to meet with chapter regents.

As Chair for our Chapter, I plan to continue to present the message about the Commemoration, try to get more partners and set up programs for next year. The supplies I am ordering will help me with these presentations. I like to hand out actual samples of the materials available to me. Since these will be informal get-togethers, I do not need lapel pins at this time. I already have 2 meetings in the scheduling stage. Note: This is how I was told to request these items since I don't have an actual event at this time.

Video interviews with Vietnam Veterans. A copy of the interview will be given to the veteran and a copy will be mailed to the Library of Congress for archiving.

Recognize and thank Vietnam Veterans for their service and sacrifice. The ceremony began with a prayer from the Chaplain and the Pledge of Allegiance. Past post commanders were introduced and the purpose of the commemoration was explained. Two Vietnam veterans served as guest speakers. All Vietnam veterans were asked to come forward to be recognized. After receiving a standing applause, each veteran was thanked and presented with a tin pin. After the event, a free dinner was provided to all attendees. The event was a great success. There was positive feedback from guests and members.

University will allow display of VN memorablia and books in library display case on a rotating basis. Will also provide web site with materials for possible student study. Will display Presidential Proclamation as well as posters developed by your organization.

Beaverton Post #124 is refurbishing and relocating one of the oldest Vietnam Veterans Memorials in the United States. The Memorial, dedicated in June 1968, lists all the Oregonians killed in the war as of the date of dedication, many added later. The building where this memorial was for almost fifty years had sold and the remodeling put the memorial in harms way. The Beaverton Post has removed the Memorial from its old location and it is safely stored. The Post is presently securing funds to build the Memorial's permanent home in our Veterans Memorial Park. This is an expensive project, approx $130,000. We have secured $63,000 to date but we are reaching out to the community, organizations and corporations for financial help. Theme for the City Veterans Day Program is "Chesapeake Remembers its Vietnam Veterans." Speaker is a Combat Infantry enlisted man who served in the infantry. Our Vietnam Veteran's will be seated and welcomed by the Mayor and distribution of pins made in public.

Presenting Vietnam Veterans with certificates and pins from the Daughters of the American Revolution to thank them for their service to our country

Our chapter is bringing a "full" uso type program to the Marion IL VA. We are bringing dancers and a band to perform for an hour. During break, we are going to do the honoring of the patients and workers with verbal recognition, a certificate and any of the materials I have orders. The program was a huge success! Seven Vietnam veterans were honored in front of our crowd. Five veterans were clients at the VA. One member was one of the dancers; and, one member was a member of the band.

This is a public display of photos and information about the vietnam war. It is located in the student union at the front entrance where hundreds of students come and go every day. We anticipate many will take time to stop and read and contemplate the sacrifices made by those who served and the families who supported them along the way.

Dear Vietnam Vet is an ongoing project getting thank you letters into the hands of Vietnam Vets. Anyone can write a thank you letter and DVV mails them and gives them to Vietnam Vets. We also put some of the support materials below into the letters. We are preparing and awarding certificates of appreciation to Vietnam veterans. These are already being distributed. We would like veteran tie pins to accompany the certificates.

We would like to place your Vietnam War Commemoration materials in our Veterans Information Center to honor Vietnam Veterans and their families who come our way. To share a short informational fact at each meeting to highlight the service of the Armed Services during the Vietnam War. We began with "General Shinseki's Six Pillars: A Philosophy of Soldiering", will continue on with the objectives of the Vietnam War Commemoration and talking points published on the Commemoration website. We will also use "This week in history" from the website, share pictures from Vietnam War displays and facts and pictures from "Armies of the Vietnam War 1962 - 75"

To honor Vietnam veterans and their families.

The Captain Noah Grant Chapter of the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution will support Glastonbury VFW Post 7659 in their holiday collection and packing event. Members of Captain Noah Grant will make donations of homemade cookies and join with the veterans to help sort, organize and pack boxes, write letters of support, and to make cards and drawings for shipment to the troops oversees during this holiday season.

To honor the service and sacrifice of VietNam Veterans who are members, husbands, family or guests of our DAR Chapter as we celebrate the holiday season and remember those active-duty soldiers who are currently protecting our freedoms here and overseas. Our first attempt at a presentation was wildly successful, and the response was overwhelming. We had expected that there would be 4-6 Vietnam Vets among our attendance of 50 people. Sure enough, there were four Vets present, but when I asked if there were husbands or relatives at home who served in Vietnam, the hands slowly started going up, almost like they were "coming out of the closet".. We ended up presenting 18 pins, with promises for that many more in the future. The pins were presented at the DAR Chapter holiday luncheon, with the Vietnam Commemorative Flag on a staff in the background and the Commemorative Mission Statement poster taped to the podium. The pins were presented by DAR Chapter Regents of three different Albuquerque Chapters -- Merideth Hmura of Zia Chapter, Kathryn Henderson of Charles Dibrell Chapter, and Patricia Barger of Lew Wallace Chapter. We alternated reading the symbolism of each item emblazoned on the pin, according to the Lapel Pin Fact Sheet. The pins were presented to Wallace Henderson, Tom Bennett, Michael Barger, and Keith Bennett. This event was written up, with pictures, in our December Chapter Newsletter distributed to our 150 members by either e-mail or snail mail.

HONOR VIETNAM VETERANS

The EC-47 History Site has sponsored and co-sponsored eight VWC events so far this year. Please see our after action reports. Also, we have either sponsored or supported additional ceremonies for Vietnam War veterans in nursing homes or for those unable to attend our organized group events. During our group ceremonies, we receive many requests for lapel pins and other VWC materials for eligible family member and friends veterans living outside of the Concho Valley, and in most cases, outside the state. Using the VWC partner portal, we attempt to locate participating VWC partners in a close proximity to the requesting veterans. . .and ask that partner to make contact and include these individual veterans in their planned programs. This has not been as successful as we had hoped. Failing to locate a participating VWC partner leaves us with few alternatives, so we have established a mail-out package that The EC-47 History Site will prepare and mail to eligible Vietnam War and Vietnam War-era veterans. The mail-out packages include: a high-quality blue pocket folder to hold a copy of the Presidential proclamation, individual VWC fact sheets, a commemorative lapel pin and fact sheet, and a sticker and information sheets explaining the VWC seal and flag. The EC-47 History Site has a robust committee and a number of these supporting organizations are including materials that focus on the VWC objectives...principally to honor and thank each of these mail-out recipients in a special way. This request is for an approximate 4-month supply of support materials to be used only in this mail-out program. We intend to submit an after action report o/a March 31, 2016 to account for the success of this program (measured by the feedback we receive from participating veterans.) We appreciate the solid guidance provided by VWC representative Trina M. Chisholm as we developed this mail-out program. Thanks for your support as well.

Our DAR chapter's Historic Preservation is collecting questionnaires regarding Vietnam Veterans experiences. This is an ongoing project and will conclude in March 2016. These questionnaires will be converted into a narrative form and compiled for the Katy Library.

The Lapeer County Committee members proposed to the county newspaper that they run an interview of a Vietnam Veteran once a month for the three years of the National Commemoration. The Lapeer County Press agreed and has run full page up to 1 1/4 pages of individual interviews of Lapeer County Vietnam Veterans. The articles have been very educational and have given a very real picture of the war from our heroes eyes. This publication covers more than Lapeer County. Public publication 2015-2018 Anticipated attendance is a guess as I don't know the county distribution hard copy and internet.

The WWII dinner and video TV program, was watched by everyone. The Vietnam 50th Anniversary Commemorative Flag was placed inside the museum showcases. The flag will be on display with many Vietnam Era uniforms and artifacts.

A display to honor veterans, with an emphasis on the Vietnam War.

This is an on-line "event" with biographies of 40 USAF veterans posted on the Air Force website. This total includes 19 Vietnam Veterans. Of special note, Col (Ret) Lee Ellis, former POW, is among those honored, and a member of our Commemorative Partner Working Group nominated Colonel Ellis to this prestigious recognition. This website will be active for some time and then archived. Veterans in Blue Vol VI was released on-line on the afternoon of November 16, 2015. The Veterans in Blue program originated within the Air Force Public Affairs Agency in 2010. The program was named "Pioneers in Blue" in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 we renamed the program "Veterans in Blue" and aligned its release to Veterans Day in November of each year. Since the beginning of the program in 2010, USAF Vietnam Veterans have been highlighted each year. We arbitrarily listed the end date as Veterans' Day 2016, since this volume will be replaced by a new volume around that date. As of now, the website for Volume VI is still a featured link on the official Air Force home page. Even when a new volume is published next November, all previous volumes will be available in an on-line archive. Colonel Ellis was an honored guest at the Air Force's first official commemorative event, a wreath-laying honoring Air Force POWs. SAF Public Affairs was the HQ USAF lead for this honor, and the AF Public Affairs Agency, a field operating agency of SAF/PA, published the volume. Although this on-line honor is not located in a specific geographic place, and even though we did not get confirmation of the success of our nomination until the actual release, this program effectively meets all of the goals of the Vietnam Commemoration: Vietnam Veterans are honored, and currently serving Airmen and the general public are educated about the sacrifices of Veterans and the contribution of the Air Force to the Vietnam War. Additionally, there is a physical gallery on the fifth floor of the Pentagon.

The Witness to WAr Foundation, in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War, has conducted, or assisted with, 92 interviews with Vietnam veterans all across America. Martin Madert attended the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association, Mobile Riverine Force Association, and Combined Action Program reunion in 2015 and preserved the stories of those in attendance. In addition to some individual interviews conducted in veterans' hometowns, these interviews cover a wide variety of experiences that our young soldiers faced between 1961-1975. The response to the project was very positive and the foundation has been invited back to continue its work at their next reunions. Many new contacts were made and made aware of the Commemoration's goals which may lead to further interviews in areas that might have been previously untouched. A display was created at the DeKalb Public Library in DeKalb, Illinois, honoring and thanking Vietnam veterans for their service. All materials from the starter kit were used in addition to actual military gear loaned to us from a Vietnam veteran. Additional props included pictures, books, posters, and other patriotic materials. We were very pleased with the end product and received many compliments from those who saw it.

A commemorative display was set up at the Murphysboro American Legion. This display consisted of a: Commemorative Flag, brochure, seal, and presidential proclamation. The display will remain up for several months.

In December 2015, our DAR chapter submitted the first two articles from interviews with local Vietnam War veterans. The articles informed the local people of what these men encountered and endured during their time in the Vietnam War. We plan to continue this project into 2016 to draw attention to these individuals who served their country so valiantly. At some time in the future, we will have a ceremony (or ceremonies) to honor these persons (or their survivors), at which time we will award their pins. We will also preserve their stories at the local Saluda Museum and at theTompkins Library in Edgefield.

The chapter compiled the Illinois Vietnam War Era Honor Roster Volume II to honor these veterans. This book lists Illinois Vietnam veterans and include name, rank, branch of service, service years, and identifies if they veteran was a war veteran or era veteran.

We built our own 60% replica of the Vietnam Wall and held a special Vietnam service

Vietnam Veterans were able to show their military items, photos, scrapbooks and memorabilia. Veterans moved some of their items out to Commemoration shows. Lapeer County Commemoration group moved items from museum to exhibits and back to museum through the 3 years. On special days Vietnam Vets were at the museum to greet people and talk to them about the exhibit the last being 12/20/17.
