Events

The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

Farmington has over 200 Vietnam veterans living in the community but there is no veterans organization for them to gather and meet. The veterans will be able to to do this when they attend the "Bring your own brown bag" lunches which will be held at the Farmington Town Hall from 11 am to 1 pm the second Wednesday of each month until December 2017. The main focus is to give the veterans a place where they can casually gather and share but a short program will be designed by sometimes inviting guest speakers. The local DAR chapter will present certificates to all Vietnam veterans who attend.

To make veterans and the public aware of the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam war; handing out information on Vietnam veterans issues, agent orange issues, and health concerns for Vietnam veterans. Tabletop display is held at the VA Hospital the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month for 8 hours per day.

Can you add sending 1 set of posters (every one of them). This is for an exhibit he is doing in San Diego that will go till 2017, so I think based on what he’s doing, we can send 1 of everything. Opening ceremony of new permanent exhibit on the Vietnam Experience on the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Exhibits, displays, timelines, oral histories, and personal stories tell the experiences of San Diegans in the Vietnam War on 4/30/2015. Exhibit opens to public on May 1st, 2015.

Each week a different Vietnam veteran will be profiled in full-page newspaper features. The profiles are published online at www.trib.com/honor with additional photos, audio and other assets. in 2017, a hardcover book of all the profiles will be published. A book signing event will be hosted and each veteran featured will be gifted a copy of the book by our sponsors and fellow commemorative committee members.

We are working with the Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs to award a Certificate of Honor to all local Vietnam Veterans.

To present veterans from Erie Co. New York with certificates from the DAR and label pins to thank them for their service.

Our agency (NYS DVA) advocates and assists Veterans and their families, including conducting numerous and on-going Outreach events, for example- recently honoring female Vietnam Veterans at NYS's Vietnam Veteran Museum. The materials we request will help us to specifically connect with and honor Vietnam Veterans.

To thank the Vietnam veterans and those lost during the war in the Hoopeston area with a meal and a lapel pin at the Hoopeston American Legion Post.

The Memorial is open year round to educate the public on the Vietnam War and the veterans who served in it. It is run by veteran volunteers and supported by various veteran organizations.They would like a commemorative flag to fly at the memorial museum.

I travel throughout an 11 state area and visit with many veterans, their families and various veteran organizations. Am in need of materials to hand out to people so word can spread about the commemoration. Am working on a Purple Heart Event in Branson, Missouri to take place 21-23 April 2016. Last year had 250 Purple Heart Recipients, and their spouses, in attendance, mostly Vietnam veterans.

This will be the 9th annual New York Mets Military Appreciation day which is held in conjunction with Fleet Week New York. Veterans will be lining the warning track, promotion ceremonies on the field, video shout outs, joint services color guard, military/veteran outreach organizations will also be present to provide veterans services

Charles Murrell, 1st SGT (Ret) US Army, and Commander, American Legion Post 1, will relate his and other veterans' experiences of the Vietnam War. As a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partner, we will welcome and honor all Vietnam vets and their families.

University will allow display of VN memorablia and books in library display case on a rotating basis. Will also provide web site with materials for possible student study. Will display Presidential Proclamation as well as posters developed by your organization.

Beaverton Post #124 is refurbishing and relocating one of the oldest Vietnam Veterans Memorials in the United States. The Memorial, dedicated in June 1968, lists all the Oregonians killed in the war as of the date of dedication, many added later. The building where this memorial was for almost fifty years had sold and the remodeling put the memorial in harms way. The Beaverton Post has removed the Memorial from its old location and it is safely stored. The Post is presently securing funds to build the Memorial's permanent home in our Veterans Memorial Park. This is an expensive project, approx $130,000. We have secured $63,000 to date but we are reaching out to the community, organizations and corporations for financial help. Theme for the City Veterans Day Program is "Chesapeake Remembers its Vietnam Veterans." Speaker is a Combat Infantry enlisted man who served in the infantry. Our Vietnam Veteran's will be seated and welcomed by the Mayor and distribution of pins made in public.

Dear Vietnam Vet is an ongoing project getting thank you letters into the hands of Vietnam Vets. Anyone can write a thank you letter and DVV mails them and gives them to Vietnam Vets. We also put some of the support materials below into the letters. Any Vietnam Vet can register to receive a thank you letter or anyone can write a thank you letter and send it in at www.dearvietnamvet.com

We are preparing and awarding certificates of appreciation to Vietnam veterans. These are already being distributed. We would like veteran tie pins to accompany the certificates.

We would like to place your Vietnam War Commemoration materials in our Veterans Information Center to honor Vietnam Veterans and their families who come our way. To share a short informational fact at each meeting to highlight the service of the Armed Services during the Vietnam War. We began with "General Shinseki's Six Pillars: A Philosophy of Soldiering", will continue on with the objectives of the Vietnam War Commemoration and talking points published on the Commemoration website. We will also use "This week in history" from the website, share pictures from Vietnam War displays and facts and pictures from "Armies of the Vietnam War 1962 - 75"

The primary purpose of the event is to honor the men and women who gave their lives in defense of our nation during the Vietnam War and recognize the Gold Star Mothers/Families for their loss and sacrifice. Also since the Tet Offensive was a major turning point in the war, the secondary purpose is to educate the residents of our community in the true result of the Tet Offensive and the contribution that our military provided during that time. It is also designed to instill pride in our veterans and their families.

At each of the Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter's general membership events this fiscal year, we the largest AUSA Chapter in the Uited States would like to recognize Vietnam Veterans publicly by presenting each with a VWC lapel pin in honor of their service. The Chapter's proximity to the retiree population around Fort Hood makes us and these events uniquely qualified to do so. The Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army hosted a General Membership meeting at the Anderson Student Center on the campus of Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas on December 17, 2015. The Keynote address was given by General Robert Abrams the Commanding General of FORSCOM. General (R) Robert M. Shoemaker, LTG (R) Horace G. Taylor and LTG (R) Paul Funk (all Vietnam Veterans) were each presented their VWC lapel pins. Subsequently, all three retired General Officers participated in the recognition and pinning of (15) additional Vietnam Veterans with their VWC lapel pins.

The Marion American Legion Post will be honoring the Vietnam veterans in the community this winter and spring. Monthly meeting at the Post are open to all veterans, not just American Legion members. We plan on distributing lapel pins at all meeting. We also have veterans in local care facilities, nursing homes and retirement homes who are unable to travel. We plan on going out to those facilities and honoring those who have served. The Post conducts fish fries each Friday during lent, again open to the public. Plans include reaching out to the Vietnam veterans in attendance and distributing lapel pins during those weekly events. All total, we could have some 20 separate but related events during the time specified. Plans are being discussed to hold an event in late April, early May to commemorate the end of the Vietnam war. That would be a separate event and support request. I have buttons on hand following the Veterans Day events.

Non - Event Distribution of Members that are VETS

The EC-47 History Site has sponsored and co-sponsored eight VWC events so far this year. Please see our after action reports. Also, we have either sponsored or supported additional ceremonies for Vietnam War veterans in nursing homes or for those unable to attend our organized group events. During our group ceremonies, we receive many requests for lapel pins and other VWC materials for eligible family member and friends veterans living outside of the Concho Valley, and in most cases, outside the state. Using the VWC partner portal, we attempt to locate participating VWC partners in a close proximity to the requesting veterans. . .and ask that partner to make contact and include these individual veterans in their planned programs. This has not been as successful as we had hoped. Failing to locate a participating VWC partner leaves us with few alternatives, so we have established a mail-out package that The EC-47 History Site will prepare and mail to eligible Vietnam War and Vietnam War-era veterans. The mail-out packages include: a high-quality blue pocket folder to hold a copy of the Presidential proclamation, individual VWC fact sheets, a commemorative lapel pin and fact sheet, and a sticker and information sheets explaining the VWC seal and flag. The EC-47 History Site has a robust committee and a number of these supporting organizations are including materials that focus on the VWC objectives...principally to honor and thank each of these mail-out recipients in a special way. This request is for an approximate 4-month supply of support materials to be used only in this mail-out program. We intend to submit an after action report o/a March 31, 2016 to account for the success of this program (measured by the feedback we receive from participating veterans.) We appreciate the solid guidance provided by VWC representative Trina M. Chisholm as we developed this mail-out program. Thanks for your support as well.

Our DAR chapter's Historic Preservation is collecting questionnaires regarding Vietnam Veterans experiences. This is an ongoing project and will conclude in March 2016. These questionnaires will be converted into a narrative form and compiled for the Katy Library.

Need more Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins

To honor the service of Vietnam Veterans and their families.

To honor Veterans and specifically those that served in Vietnam. The monthly genealogical meetings are held and we anticipate that in four months we can honor close to 30 Vietnam Veterans. We have asked for a listing of all genealogy members who are Vietnam era Vets and have rec'd 25 including one female. We do anticipate a few more at these meetings.

Several Walls in the museum have been dedicated to honoring the Vietnam Veterans..The Commerative Flag is displayed and personalized tours are being conducted especially for the Vietnam Veterans and their families.

The Lapeer County Committee members proposed to the county newspaper that they run an interview of a Vietnam Veteran once a month for the three years of the National Commemoration. The Lapeer County Press agreed and has run full page up to 1 1/4 pages of individual interviews of Lapeer County Vietnam Veterans. The articles have been very educational and have given a very real picture of the war from our heroes eyes. This publication covers more than Lapeer County. Public publication 2015-2018 Anticipated attendance is a guess as I don't know the county distribution hard copy and internet.

This will be a museum exhibit displaying photos and stories of citizens of Tipton County who served in the Vietnam War. Our Opening Reception will be February 18 from 6:30 until 8:00, and we will be honoring several Vietnam Veterans that evening.

The purpose of this display is to raise awareness of the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War. It highlights life for an American soldier during that time period. Another purpose of the display is to enlighten patrons about the sacrifices by those who fought in the war.

Post will have Morning Coffee all Year Sunday through Tuesday. Bingo Every Saturday Night. Special Dinners. Flag Burning Ceremony. All will honor the Service of Vietnam Veterans. The hall will have displays of the time line of the war. Veterans will be asked to talk about their times there. Hoping to include the local High School and Elementary school with history displays and talks with our Vietnam Veterans.

This event is an annual luncheon held in honor of George Washington's Birthday and sponsored by the Knox County Council of Regents (Daughters of the American Revolution.) Most attendees will be DAR members. We would like to have a booth about the Commemoration to provide information to attendees in order to raise awareness of the Commemoration objectives and to encourage chapters to sign up as commemorative partners and hold commemorative events to honor Vietnam Veterans and their families. If it is too late to request a staffed booth, we would love to at least display and distribute commemoration materials to attendees to raise awareness and encourage participation in the Commemoration. We will need to have materials shipped to us, please.

The event is hosted by the JMU Cadet Association and the Military Science Department. This is a free lunch with guest speakers honoring and remembering the Veterans of the Vietnam War. Veterans will be honored through a free lunch, Local organizations that provide PTSD support will have booths set up as well as displays from the Vietnam Veterans Museum here in VA. CSM(R) Pat StClair a member our the Blue Boy Team from the Son Tay Raid will be our keynote speaker.

The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host the annual George Washington National Defense Luncheon on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. The Luncheon will be held at the Baton Rouge Country Club, 8551 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70809. The guest speaker will be Michael McNaughton, Director of Outreach with the Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs. Vietnam War Era veterans will be recognized and honored. They will be presented with 50th Anniversary Commemoration lapel pins and National Society DAR certificates of appreciation. Members and State Officers of Louisiana Society DAR from around the state will be in attendance. Members of the Sons of the American Revolution will also attend. The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution hosted the annual George Washington National Defense Luncheon on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Baton Rouge Country Club. Fifty DAR and SAR members and their family members attended the luncheon. The guest speaker was Michael McNaughton, former Director of Outreach with the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. Vietnam War Era veterans were recognized and honored. Nine veterans were presented with NSDAR certificates of appreciation and Commemoration lapel pins.

At our monthly DAR meeting in January, the ladies attending will be given the opportunity to take a small number of pins, brochures, seals and bumper stickers to give out to Vietnam Veterans they may know or live with and also to random Vets they may see in the stores, BX, commissary, clinics, hospitals, etc. The ladies will be asked to keep track of how many pins they give out and a log of the Vets' reactions or responses. Many of the pins I have personally given out spawn very interesting stories!

As Regent of the Capt. Henry Vanderburgh Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, I plan on taking lapel pins along when I attend events at the local VFW, American Legion, Veterans Day Parade, Fall Festival Parade, and Christmas Parade. On behalf of the Chapter I also services at the local Cemeteries on Veteran's Day and at Memorial Day. These will also be given to honor the spouses of several of our Chapter members who are Vietnam Vets. I will also take them to our State Convention for the other Chapter's to take to their spouse's.

We wish to order the Vietnam Veterans Lapel pins. We will be distrubiting them to the Veterans at the reunion. We will also be presenting them to the Vets that meet at the VFW monthly and to the Vets on Vietnam Veterans Day.

To honor and thank Vietnam Veterans and support staff for their service. This is an ongoing activity that occurs at our monthly meetings throughout the year. Lunch is provided and certificates, lapel pins, and materials are given to our Vietnam veterans. Colors were posted by our local JROTC group. The Lorain Mayor, Chase Ritenauer, spoke. Following the luncheon, Regent Mary Jane Burger also spoke using many of the talking points provided by the Commemoration. Lapel pins and certificates were presented. Gift bags containing a copy of the Proclamation, fact sheet, tin pins, stickers, and a small box of Valentine candy were also given. Many people commented on what a wonderful event it was. It was very successful.

Recognize and honor the Vietnam Veterans within the Milwaukee Fire Dept.

Our Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter has an office at the V A Hospital where we assist Veterans on health issues and filing claims .We also visit patients every three months . We will be giving out 50th commemoration pins and stickers to the Vietnam Veteran Veterans we come in contact with . Also to those in the Hallways and waiting areas who have Vietnam hats on .

Award lapel pins to all veterans who were in service during the Vietnam War. Presentations occurred during meetings for AMVETS Post 106, VFW Post 2866, and VVA 458. In addition, pins were presented to qualified veterans at PTSD meetings. All the veterans were very grateful to receive the lapel pin. Recognition of Vietnam Veterans, Spouses, and Gold Star Spouses in Central Texas area.

We will honor a RN, Breese Baker, who served in Vietnam with a certificate and lapel pin.

To thank veterans for service in Vietnam era. A dignified event thanking the Vietnam veterans. A speaker gave remarks and DAR certificates were handed out with the lapel pins, among other materials. Refreshments were provided by Ladies Legion Auxiliary.

We have recognition events for the patients on our hospice service which includes their families and or fellow comrades if living in a nursing home. Also, events in the community involving our Veteran to Veteran Volunteers and their service.

This display features three Vietnam Veterans who are either currently (February) Patriots of the Month or who have been Patriots of the Month for MSSDAR (http://www.mssdar.org/statepages/patriots.htm) and the display also honors the Presidents who were in office during the Vietnam era since February is Presidents' Month.

We are planning to dedicate a tree and an engraved plaque in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War this spring; also will have random opportunities to present lapel pins to Vietnam Veterans throughout the year, working together with VVA-Kansas City Chapter and other area Vietnam Veterans.

Our AL Post 284 is celebrating its 70th Anniversary of service to Veterans and the community. The 1st Quarter is devoted to honoring Vietnam Veterans. The other quarters will be themed to honor, WWII, Korea, and other eras. There are Vietnam Veteran events planned for April an May as well, but I have not gotten all of the information from our Post 70th Celebration Committee.

Fort GreeneVille Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is sponsoring a Vietnam War Veterans display at the Greenville Library in Greenville, Ohio the month of February, Feb 4-29. The display has been made possible with the assistance of Vietnam War Veterans Richard Grow of Ansonia and Douglas Black of Greenville. Richard Grow Jr. was a US Navy 2nd Class Petty Officer, E-5 Boiler Technician from 1970 to 1974 on ships Parsons and USS Rowan. Douglas Black was a US Army Staff Sargent, E-6 from 1965 to 1967 and his Vietnam tour was 1966 to 1967. He was in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade C/Company. Douglas received the Bronze Star Valor and inducted in the Ohio Military Hall of Fame for Valor. Fort GreeneVille DAR would like to invite the public to visit the library's display cabinet in honor of our local Vietnam Veterans.

Dedicated by the Dogwood Chapter American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. Serving as a reminder of those that have not returned home and in remembrance of their sons and daughters who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving this country.

Opportunity to honor our Vietnam Vets with art and handouts. Marines Vietnam Vets are there to talk to kids and adults on the war. During our donation event, we paid special tribute to Vietnam War veterans. We set up a booth at the entrance of the gun show and manned it by Vietnam veterans. We set up a photo booth, provided giveaways, and displayed photos of the war and 50th anniversary commemorative display. Many Vietnam veterans came over, discussed the war and each Vietnam veteran was thanked for their service and welcomed home. Overall, it was a great success.

A multi-media art project, Take Me Home Huey was created by Light Horse Legacy partner artist Steve Maloney from the remains of a Huey helicopter that was shot down in 1969 during a medical rescue in Vietnam. The serial number of the Huey is 67-17174; the aircraft is commonly known as #174. The crew chief Gary Dubach and the medic Stephen Schumacher of the 15th Medical Battalion, 1st Cavalry Div. died bravely during the medical rescue attempt. The aircraft was found by Viet Nam War 50th Commemorative partner Light Horse Legacy (LHL), a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on Post-Traumatic Stress. LHL researched, re-skinned and restored the helicopter for Maloney, who then repurposed it into art for healing. Maloney’s Take Me Home Huey 42-foot long art installation combines a Huey helicopter used in Vietnam and turned into art for healing and to inspire conversation. The other elements of the art installation are a documentary film that is in the editing process, a commissioned Take Me Home Huey song as well as a detailed website with information about this particular Huey helicopter, the artist as well as resources about Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD)along with the advances of air and medical technology. The helicopter’s history and artistic mission is significant; Take Me Home Huey honors Vietnam veterans, inspires conversation, promotes healing, and helps raise awareness for PTSD treatment services. The Nov. 2015 inaugural exhibition in Peoria, AZ reunited surviving 174 crewmembers and families connected to the aircraft. A time capsule in 174 preserves artifacts of the war for future generations, including a signed book by ex-POW Senator John McCain. The “healing helicopter” will be on public display February 18 thru April 30, 2016 at The Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm Springs CA: open daily from 10am to 5pm. The Park Service Volunteers at The Wall will be presenting Vietnam veteran lapel pins to Vietnam veterans visiting The Wall

A commemorative display was set up at the Murphysboro American Legion. This display consisted of a: Commemorative Flag, brochure, seal, and presidential proclamation. The display will remain up for several months.

The event was built around the fact that Meals on Wheels, Fort Worth, TX clients are ambulatory/home-bound individuals who could not make any of the other formal "welcome home" celebrations. The lapel pins were distributed in a one-on-one manner at the home of the Vietnam War era veteran. The veterans reside in all geographical areas around Fort Worth, TX and the distribution of pins was done over a 30+ day time frame. The event was successful in that veterans who have been unable to attend other functions, due to health issues, were honored. Many were very emotional and moved in this personal thanks for their service. Family members and caregivers for these veterans were also present since the pin ceremonies were in the homes/residences of the veterans.

This was a huge success for the Post. Buddy Poppies were handed out. All Vietnam veterans that came by and introduced himself or herself was met by the Commander, Cliff Young, and presented with the lapel pins and other items. Many children asked about the items and we explained what we were doing and gave them a pin or sticker and pointed out the Vietnam vets and asked the kids to thank them for their service and shake their hand. Donations were made by all and goes to the veterans support fund of the post.

Ron Deverick, a Third marine Division Association member and volunteer for Chicago VA Hospital and O'Hare USO, presented the lapel pins to Vietnam War Era veterans in these locations. Many of the veterans at the VA hospital were being treated for PTSD and were extremely grateful for the recognition.

Lunches are provided at no cost by the Legacy of Victor (senior living facility). A guest speaker provides updates to veterans benefits to the attendees. Open to all veterans and their spouses/companions

We built our own 60% replica of the Vietnam Wall and held a special Vietnam service

We will take the time, throughout the month of January & February, to individually honor the Vietnam Veterans and their families that reside in the Southwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jennings, LA.

10 veterans were presented pins and materials between 24-26 July in Sault Ste. Marie and Brimley, MI by the Kanava president and staff. 10 pins and materials were presented to Vietnam veterans in July by Kanava staff in MI. 2 Vietnam veterans (Navy and Army) located in Sault Ste. Marie, MI were presented pins by Kanava staff on July 1. 21 Vietnam veterans, including 11 Asian-Americans, were presented pins and materials between July and November by Kanava staff in PA, AZ, CA, OR, HI.

Vietnam Veterans were able to show their military items, photos, scrapbooks and memorabilia. Veterans moved some of their items out to Commemoration shows. Lapeer County Commemoration group moved items from museum to exhibits and back to museum through the 3 years. On special days Vietnam Vets were at the museum to greet people and talk to them about the exhibit the last being 12/20/17.

Lapeer County Committee approached the local newspaper, Lapeer County Press, and asked them to do biographical interviews with some of our Vietnam Veterans who served in the Vietnam War. They published 12 of these accounts.
