The Vietnam Veterans Celebration hosted by the Salt Lake Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Saturday, February 27, 2016 was a HUGE success. The original audience for this event was Vietnam Veterans residing at the Valor House and family members of our chapter members. As our ladies began to talk about the affair in their neighborhoods, churches and with family members, additional veterans were identified. Official invitations were designed and mailed to each identified Vietnam Veteran. Also, a program was created for the event which was given to each veteran and/or family member(s). Several veterans were not able to make the celebration because they live outside the state of Utah. Our speaker, Dennis Howland, is a Vietnam Veterans himself who is very active in the local Vietnam efforts in the Salt Lake City area. Dennis provided interesting facts about the war itself as well as highlighting the service of all military personnel stationed across the world during the Vietnam War. Additionally each veteran received a special certificate from the Daughters of the American Revolution which recognized their service during the war. Each certificate was signed by the Salt Lake Valley Chapter Regent, Susan Holt and was presented to each attending veteran by the Utah State Regent, Judy Barking; Chapter Regent, Susan Holt and State Chairman of Service to Veterans, Patricia Moseman. Each presenter took time to thank the veterans for their service; recognize their sacrifice of youth; applaud their heroism and overall projected gratitude for their time and bravery. Along with each certificate, a copy of the description of the label pin, a copy of President Obama's proclamation, the official veterans label pin and a pocket flag was given to each veteran or family member. The certificate, description of the label pin and proclamation were housed in an official NSDAR.
