Beaverton Post #124 is refurbishing and relocating one of the oldest Vietnam Veterans Memorials in the United States. The Memorial, dedicated in June 1968, lists all the Oregonians killed in the war as of the date of dedication, many added later. The building where this memorial was for almost fifty years had sold and the remodeling put the memorial in harms way. The Beaverton Post has removed the Memorial from its old location and it is safely stored. The Post is presently securing funds to build the Memorial's permanent home in our Veterans Memorial Park. This is an expensive project, approx $130,000. We have secured $63,000 to date but we are reaching out to the community, organizations and corporations for financial help. The EC-47 History Site has sponsored and co-sponsored eight VWC events so far this year. Please see our after action reports. Also, we have either sponsored or supported additional ceremonies for Vietnam War veterans in nursing homes or for those unable to attend our organized group events. During our group ceremonies, we receive many requests for lapel pins and other VWC materials for eligible family member and friends veterans living outside of the Concho Valley, and in most cases, outside the state. Using the VWC partner portal, we attempt to locate participating VWC partners in a close proximity to the requesting veterans. . .and ask that partner to make contact and include these individual veterans in their planned programs. This has not been as successful as we had hoped. Failing to locate a participating VWC partner leaves us with few alternatives, so we have established a mail-out package that The EC-47 History Site will prepare and mail to eligible Vietnam War and Vietnam War-era veterans. The mail-out packages include: a high-quality blue pocket folder to hold a copy of the Presidential proclamation, individual VWC fact sheets, a commemorative lapel pin and fact sheet, and a sticker and information sheets explaining the VWC seal and flag. The EC-47 History Site has a robust committee and a number of these supporting organizations are including materials that focus on the VWC objectives...principally to honor and thank each of these mail-out recipients in a special way. This request is for an approximate 4-month supply of support materials to be used only in this mail-out program. We intend to submit an after action report o/a March 31, 2016 to account for the success of this program (measured by the feedback we receive from participating veterans.) We appreciate the solid guidance provided by VWC representative Trina M. Chisholm as we developed this mail-out program. Thanks for your support as well.

To officially welcome home Viet Nam Veterans and honor them by presenting a lapel pin. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10003 of Carmel, Indiana and The City of Carmel, Indiana, hosted the "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans" ceremony on Wednesday, March 30th at Noon at The Tarkington at The Center for the Performing Arts. The event was a huge success with over 250 people in attendance, many Vietnam Veterans who don't normally attend public events. I, Richard Leirer as the VFW Post Commander and a Vietnam Veteran myself was Honored to serve as the emcee and one of the presenters of the Vietnam Veterans Lapel Pins. Our objective was to recognize, thank and honor our United States military veterans who served during the Vietnam War. Almost every part of our ceremony was conducted by a Vietnam Veteran in our community and many tears were shed. The Honor Guard was made up of several Vietnam Veterans from both the VFW and Carmel American Legion. During the lapel pin presentation there were many touching moments, a lady ask me if she could have a pin in memory of her husband a Vietnam Veteran who recently passed away, another person ask for a second pin for his friend who couldn't get off work to attend and even after the ceremony several people ask for pins for family members and friends who couldn't be there. Highlights include: -Our guest speaker, US Army Colonel Bob Clifford, shared with us that he only began telling his Vietnam stories about two years ago. He felt speaking at our event was very healing to him and his family. He also gave a history of what lead to Vietnam - many veterans said they were proud to serve their country but didn't know why they were there - Col. Clifford's speech gave them insight they had never known. Our National Anthem singer, Blair Clark, is a local and national recording artist as well as a Vietnam Veteran. In several years of working with him, we didn't know he was in Vietnam.

To highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and the contributions of Federal agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations that served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces. Our event was more of a series of events which all turned out successfully and allowed us to properly thank many Vietnam Veterans in the community in addition to several Gold Star family members. This AAR specifically relates to the ceremony which my organization hosted. A couple issues were: Find a less controversial keynote speaker. The keynote speaker for the main ceremony was a Special Forces Vietnam Veteran and community leader, however he was very outspoken about his views on the War and the political climate in the country that contributed to the collapse of Republic of Vietnam. About half of Vietnam Veterans attending supported his views and the other half did not or were agnostic. A few Vietnam Veterans unfortunately got up and left.

A multi-media art project, Take Me Home Huey was created by Light Horse Legacy partner artist Steve Maloney from the remains of a Huey helicopter that was shot down in 1969 during a medical rescue in Vietnam. The serial number of the Huey is 67-17174; the aircraft is commonly known as #174. The crew chief Gary Dubach and the medic Stephen Schumacher of the 15th Medical Battalion, 1st Cavalry Div. died bravely during the medical rescue attempt. The aircraft was found by Viet Nam War 50th Commemorative partner Light Horse Legacy (LHL), a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on Post-Traumatic Stress. LHL researched, re-skinned and restored the helicopter for Maloney, who then repurposed it into art for healing. Maloney’s Take Me Home Huey 42-foot long art installation combines a Huey helicopter used in Vietnam and turned into art for healing and to inspire conversation. The other elements of the art installation are a documentary film that is in the editing process, a commissioned Take Me Home Huey song as well as a detailed website with information about this particular Huey helicopter, the artist as well as resources about Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD)along with the advances of air and medical technology. The helicopter’s history and artistic mission is significant; Take Me Home Huey honors Vietnam veterans, inspires conversation, promotes healing, and helps raise awareness for PTSD treatment services. The Nov. 2015 inaugural exhibition in Peoria, AZ reunited surviving 174 crewmembers and families connected to the aircraft. A time capsule in 174 preserves artifacts of the war for future generations, including a signed book by ex-POW Senator John McCain. The “healing helicopter” will be on public display February 18 thru April 30, 2016 at The Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm Springs CA: open daily from 10am to 5pm. A Guide by Cell exhibition guide accessed thru smart-phones enhances the installation

A State Representative, who is a member of the John Guild Chapter, also sent a proclamation acknowledging the service of the veterans and inviting them to visit her office in Jefferson City. Lapel pins were given to each veteran as they entered the building along with a greeting statement thanking them for their service and sacrifice as well as the sacrifices of their families. Bumper stickers and brochures were placed on the tables along with other patriotic table decorations. Our DAR Chapter is going to have a program we call "Commemoration on the Move". We will be obtaining names of Vietnam era Veterans in our community from our chapter membership. We will travel to these individuals homes to present them with certificates and other commemoration memorabilia. We will talk briefly with the veteran and family present about the purpose of the commemoration and officially welcome them home. This event was different in that it was not one big event. We located Vietnam veteran through our chapter's members. We traveled through our city visiting these veterans in their homes, or at a pre-determined location to thank them, present lapel pins and DAR certificates, a special letter from our Chapter Regent and other Commemorative information and materials. A short speech was made on the history of the 50th commemorative effort. This gave us the opportunity to visit veterans individually or in small groups, hear their stories and truly thank them. One of our chapter members reached out to about 30 of her former classmates who lived out of our local area. Many had not heard from her in years. They had marvelous conversations, each veteran truly expressing their gratitude that she had found them and told them about the Commemoration. Packages including all of the items listed below along with a special letter written by the Regent were mailed to each of them. Whether local or not, the gratitude expressed by all the veterans was overwhelming. Many said this is the first time anyone ever recognized them. Someone said the war was so long ago they don't think about it much anymore. Many thank you notes and letters were received. In times where various factors make it difficult to have a single large event, this method of reaching veterans truly worked and we would recommend it to other Commemorative Partners.

These pins will be used for pinning ceremonies to honor and thank Vietnam Veterans who are in hospice care with our organization. All Veterans we serve are recognized with a "thank you" flag-pinning ceremony to honor their service; it would be especially nice to have a specific pin for the Vietnam Veterans. We also attempt to have as many family members as possible present for these bedside pinning ceremonies: they are often quite emotional, as this is a final opportunity for the service of these brave men and women to be acknowledged. This event was a great success! We wanted to recognize our own five staff and hospice volunteers who are Vietnam Veterans, and we wanted to surprise them with the honor on Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day (March 30). The presentation of the Vietnam Veteran lapel pin, a personalized certificate and a bumper sticker. A special ceremony and reading were done at the beginning of a presentation on Honoring Veterans at the End of Life - a mandatory in-service for our hospice volunteers - that was intentionally scheduled on that date. We had asked the Veterans to be present just so we could introduce them to the group assembled for the program. Our CEO read a tribute to them, and they were pinned and thanked, and received a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. The five Vietnam Veterans who were honored were Army (3) and Navy (2). Photos were taken and included in our organization's weekly newsletter distributed to 900+ staff and 1500+ volunteers.

Since late December 2015, Old 96 District Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution has been gathering the stories of local people who served in Vietnam. One member, Ann Ella Adams, has been interviewing these veterans (or widows) and writing their stories for publication in the Saluda Standard-Sentinel and the Edgefield Advertiser, the two newspapers that serve the Saluda and Edgefield County area of west central South Carolina. (Three veterans have written their own stories.) Publishing these stories has made the public aware of the tremendous service that these individuals provided to our country 50 years ago. Also, we have been told by a number of these people that the very act of recalling the service that they provided has helped them to verbalize their deeds in a way that nothing else has done before. Spouses and families have heard their stories recently as never before. Their fellow citizens also have been made aware of their sacrifices. We plan to honor them in late March or in April, as soon as we receive the pins from you.

To honor Vietnam Veterans and their families who live in our community. To honor the lives of those lost in the Vietnam War, as well as their families. To recognize the continuing struggle many Vietnam Veterans continue to face due to their experiences in the Vietnam War. We felt the event was a success given certain barriers. It was the first time we have established an event just for Vietnam Veterans so there were some growing pains associated with that. The issue that we faced was timing of the MVC and veteran participation. We would have liked to have the Mobile Vet Center here for tomorrows event as well, but the MVC will be with the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall in norther Arizona. Additional media coverage would've been welcomed. We weren't sure when the materials were going to get here so we didn't want to make promises we couldn't keep. Moving forward, we will have a lot more publicity and advertising with local VA and veteran organizations. We completed the objective of, "thanking and honoring Veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans" by presenting information on agent orange and presenting veterans who walked up with lapel pins. We also had a nice photo between two veterans holding the Vietnam Commemoration Flag. We were also able to fulfill the objective of highlighting advances in technology by bringing out the state of the art VA Mobile Vet Center which can provide counseling services in remote areas as well as tele-health conferencing. We also provided information regarding Agent Orange exposure and airborne hazard exposure.

Please contact the VA location in your area for more information on the March 29, 2016 Recognition Event. The Sioux Falls VA hosted an open house for Vietnam Veterans, their families, and the community on March 29, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Attendance surpassed our expectations with approximately 250-275 individuals present. In addition to medical center, regional office, and Vet Center staff, the American Legion, DAV, and Vietnam Veterans of America also hosted informational booths. Special exhibits included the Missing Man Table and banners listing the fallen South Dakota Vietnam Veterans. The DAV also loaned multiple pieces of art representing Vietnam Veterans to VA for this occasion. Representatives from the offices of Senators Thune, Rounds, and Ernst attended as did Mrs. South Dakota. The first Vietnam Veteran admitted to the Sioux Falls VA was present. Chaplain (retired Major General) Norris Einertson gave the invocation and also had his Vietnam chaplain's field kit on display. Vietnam Veterans unveiled the special exhibit of Vietnam memorabilia and artifacts on loan from area Veterans including Michael J. Fitzmaurice, Medal of Honor recipient. The co-chair of the MyVA Community read the mayoral proclamation; and leadership from the health care system and Dakotas Regional Office presented Veterans the commemorative pins and presidential proclamations. Refreshments were served, and we have received many positive compliments about the event. We also made copies of the fact sheets for Veterans and the public and created a flyer for the event in addition to press releases and social media promotion. Having a customizable flyer would have been helpful. As a smaller facility, we do not have medical media and depended on sources outside VA to print larger copies of the posters, etc. On April 1, the Director honored Sioux F
