12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
The Blue Springs Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, together with the Lafayette-Lexington Chapter, and other partners of the United States’ 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration Committee, are hosting a patriotic grave marking ceremony for the nearly 1,000 Vietnam veterans interred at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:30 A.M.
Members of the American Legion Patriot Guard, along with several volunteer Vietnam veterans and Daughters of the American Revolution, will assist in marking the graves with special ribbon flags in the colors of the Republic of Vietnam, followed by a special program and symbolic grave marking at the Memorial Wall. The program, “Honoring Our Heroes On Hallowed Ground,” will include greetings from Mayors Jerry Brown, city of Lexington; and Bill Kolas, city of Higginsville; with special remarks by Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross. All three mayors are Vietnam veterans.
Everyone is invited to attend this special inaugural event, honoring all Vietnam veterans who served from November 1, 1955 - May 15, 1975. Vietnam veterans or their family members will be presented with a commemorative lapel pin and certificate provided by the United States Department of Defense, at a reception immediately following the program. Seating is limited, so guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
