The Memorial, dedicated in June 1968, lists all the Oregonians killed in the war as of the date of dedication, many added later. The building where this memorial was for almost fifty years had sold and the remodeling put the memorial in harms way. The Beaverton Post has removed the Memorial from its old location and it is safely stored. The Post is presently securing funds to build the Memorial's permanent home in our Veterans Memorial Park. This is an expensive project, approx $130,000. We have secured $63,000 to date but we are reaching out to the community, organizations and corporations for financial help. To thank and honor Veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans. To highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and the contributions of Federal agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations that served with, or in support of, the Armed Forces. Our event was more of a series of events which all turned out successfully and allowed us to properly thank many Vietnam Veterans in the community in addition to several Gold Star family members. This AAR specifically relates to the ceremony which my organization hosted. A couple issues were: Find a less controversial keynote speaker. The keynote speaker for the main ceremony was a Special Forces Vietnam Veteran and community leader, however he was very outspoken about his views on the War and the political climate in the country that contributed to the collapse of Republic of Vietnam. About half of Vietnam Veterans attending supported his views and the other half did not or were agnostic. A few Vietnam Veterans unfortunately got up and left.

Our DAR Chapter is going to have a program we call "Commemoration on the Move". We will be obtaining names of Vietnam era Veterans in our community from our chapter membership. We will travel to these individuals homes to present them with certificates and other commemoration memorabilia. We will talk briefly with the veteran and family present about the purpose of the commemoration and officially welcome them home. This event was different in that it was not one big event. We located Vietnam veteran through our chapter's members. We traveled through our city visiting these veterans in their homes, or at a pre-determined location to thank them, present lapel pins and DAR certificates, a special letter from our Chapter Regent and other Commemorative information and materials. A short speech was made on the history of the 50th commemorative effort. This gave us the opportunity to visit veterans individually or in small groups, hear their stories and truly thank them. One of our chapter members reached out to about 30 of her former classmates who lived out of our local area. Many had not heard from her in years. They had marvelous conversations, each veteran truly expressing their gratitude that she had found them and told them about the Commemoration. Packages including all of the items listed below along with a special letter written by the Regent were mailed to each of them. Whether local or not, the gratitude expressed by all the veterans was overwhelming. Many said this is the first time anyone ever recognized them. Someone said the war was so long ago they don't think about it much anymore. Many thank you notes and letters were received. In times where various factors make it difficult to have a single large event, this method of reaching veterans truly worked and we would recommend it to other Commemorative Partners.

These pins will be used for pinning ceremonies to honor and thank Vietnam Veterans who are in hospice care with our organization. All Veterans we serve are recognized with a "thank you" flag-pinning ceremony to honor their service; it would be especially nice to have a specific pin for the Vietnam Veterans. We also attempt to have as many family members as possible present for these bedside pinning ceremonies: they are often quite emotional, as this is a final opportunity for the service of these brave men and women to be acknowledged. This event was a great success! We wanted to recognize our own five staff and hospice volunteers who are Vietnam Veterans, and we wanted to surprise them with the honor on Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day (March 30). The presentation of the Vietnam Veteran lapel pin, a personalized certificate and a bumper sticker. A special ceremony and reading were done at the beginning of a presentation on Honoring Veterans at the End of Life - a mandatory in-service for our hospice volunteers - that was intentionally scheduled on that date. We had asked the Veterans to be present just so we could introduce them to the group assembled for the program. Our CEO read a tribute to them, and they were pinned and thanked, and received a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. The five Vietnam Veterans who were honored were Army (3) and Navy (2). Photos were taken and included in our organization's weekly newsletter distributed to 900+ staff and 1500+ volunteers.

Trail of Honor, Inc. sponsors the Trail of Honor each May. This annual event is a living history of all American wars, from the French and Indian War through and including our present War on Terror. Each station on the trail is an historical demonstration of the era that it represents. The uniforms, weapons, ammunition, rations and equipment that were used are displayed. Historians at each station are experts on the era that they represent and visitors are encouraged to stay at each station as long as they like. This event is not a military recruiting effort. Trail of Honor, Inc. is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was established to honor our Nation’s veterans, to promote healing among all veterans, families/friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War/Missing in Action, and to honor the memory of those Killed in Action. Growing beyond what started as a weekend event, Trail of Honor in 2015 had an attendance of about 25,000 visitors from all over the country. This educational event with re-enactors portraying the lifestyles and hardships that our brave men and women endured is free of charge to the public. The Trail of Honor is held every year during the weekend prior to Memorial Day weekend. The event concludes on Monday with the arrival of almost 500 motorcycle participants of the Run for the Wall (RFTW). RFTW has continued this tradition each May for over twenty-one years, incorporating the Trail of Honor as a major stop on their route to Washington, D.C., and the annual Rolling Thunder event held each Memorial Day at the Vietnam Memorial. Co-Host: Annandale NSDAR; Chief Red Jacket NSDAR; James Foster MSSDAR; Magnolia State NSDAR; Ralph Humphreys NSDAR; Rebecca Cravat NSDAR; Walter Leake NSDAR; Army Aviation Heritage Foundation

Families were appreciative of the efforts of the staff putting the event together for their love ones. Also, throughout the event, staff were interacting with Veterans and family thanking them for their great service and sacrifice for this Country. One factor that was helpful to the success of the event was sponsorship where food and door prizes were abundant. All Veterans received a door prize and DJ was able to keep the 60s and 70s music going throughout the event. Unexpected one of the TV Stations Channel 25 showed up and did a story on the event. One thing we as the Memorial want to let you and others know even with the low turnout we raised enough in donations to add 6 Killed in Action Soldiers to the National Veterans Memorial. Our program regrading towards the Vietnam War was as done we called out more than 100 Killed in Action Soldiers and one M.I.A. names from this area having a Vietnam War slide show in the background. We had a Vietnam War Exhibit as well as a M.I.A.'s Flight Suite from the War on site, also we played music fitting the time period before and after the program. One was a surprise presentation to a woman veteran after she was a speaker at our April chapter meeting. Many were witnessed by immediate family members. Three were presented posthumously. Some provided contact information for others to be recognized. Many were surprised to hear about this program. Information has been submitted for publication in the chapter and state DAR newsletters. This year we are incorporating the Vietnam War Commemoration into all of our ceremonies and outreach events. Our three Veteran Town Halls in May present VA services and allow Veterans to share comments and concerns (we do 6-7 Town Halls annually). Our annual Memorial Day Ceremony honors those who have given their lives. Further, Veterans who did not attend our 3/29/16 ceremony have been requesting the Veteran Lapel Pins and Proclamations, and we have been giving them out when requested (we have only 500 of 2000 left). We conducted three veteran town hall in Munising, MI (May 9); Newberry, MI (May 10); and Sault Ste. Marie, MI (May 10). The only issue encountered was that at two of our town halls, there was one Korean conflict veteran at each that complained that Korean veterans were once again slighted.

AAR Very positive experience for all attendees. Presented 3 pins to Vietnam War veterans plus had 3 attendees who received their pins earlier in the month at the local VAMC. No issues or problems. No media coverage. Pictures and article will be in chapter newsletter, which is shared with national board members and other chapters. With our small group, the ability to personalize the ceremony was very important to us. The sharing of stories and comments really made the ceremony extra special. We were able to recognize the 2 Navy Nurse Corps Officers plus one USMC spouse with their proclamation and pins. Also incorporated the other two Navy Nurse Corps officers and another USMC spouse who received their pins earlier. Made for an emotional and warm event that touched all. Our objective was to honor and thank our veterans of the Vietnam War for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans.

Each counselor will be doing their own event for their specific group of Vietnam Veteran clients. Exact plans have yet to be determined. Over a period of a month, the individual counselors from the Colorado Springs Vet Center held ceremonies to honor and recognize the Vietnam Veterans assigned to their caseload. Events ranged from breakfasts to "pot-luck" style meals, video presentations and open forums for the Veterans and their families all culminating with the presentation of the Presidential Proclamation and Lapel Pin to each individual. The event was a success. All recipients and attendees expressed appreciation and thanks for the events, with many of them felling "humbled" by the experience. Honor and recognize Vietnam-Theatre and Vietnam-Era Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice to our country. We believe these events were a success. We coordinated four events scheduled for the week of May 23, 2016. Each event was advertised by providing an invitation to each group who participates in groups, and also inviting guests/family. Refreshments were provided. The lapel pins were presented to Vietnam veterans, and their families were thanked and honored as well. We also presented lapel pins to the family member or spouse of a deceased Vietnam veterans. It was humbling to honor these Vietnam veterans that we work with, most of whom we know personally and professionally, as well as, their families. Minimal issues. Trying to coordinate events to include all veterans qualifying and in one main event was challenging. As a provider and presenter, it was somewhat hard to hear negative comments from participants, despite the positive intent and efforts.

In recognition of the 50th Anniverary of the Vietnam War, the county of Bergen will host the Traveling Vietnam Wall to Overpeck County Park for 5 days. Opening ceremonies will begin on the 19th at 5:30pm with the reading of all NJ names on the wall. The event is to pay honor and respect to all those who ost their lives in this conflict and all those who served in NJ during this time period. After all the planning and prep time for this event, our group still observed some issues with the presentation of this event that was hosted by the county of Bergen -- Bergen County Department of Veteran Services. As with any function that involves any form of politicians, I felt many important tasks were missed while organizing this event. The final product did show these flaws over the course of the 5 days on-sight. We were able to overlook many of the county issues and focus our attention on the veterans in attendance -- estimating about a 1000. We were able to provide a secure setting for any veteran who was having emotional problems while visiting the memorial. Our center was able to perform on-sight counseling to several of these veterans within our mobile center stationed at event for duration. A few key issues that came up during event was the lack of information for the set-up. The Wall didn't have a soldier's cross on hand, which had been mentioned by several of the veterans who visited the site. Location of the wall was not accessible for many of the veterans and visitors with any physical disabilities. Opening ceremony focused too heavily on the local politicians who attended, making speeches that seemed to take much longer than needed. A big concern was the actual reading of the names for all the fallen NJ veterans. The organizers only read the names of county residents -- roughly 189 fallen, for the 1400 plus NJ names, they used a recorded message that was played over the sound system at the event location. Our group felt this was somewhat disrespectful for all th

A very successful event! Congressmen Dent provided informational updates to veterans benefits and legislative initiatives that relate to veterans. Congressmen Dent invited Federal and State Veterans Affairs personnel to assist Veterans with registration and benefit filing as well. Congressmen Dent thanked all attending Veterans and made special recognition to Vietnam Veterans and the Vietnam Veteran family members in attendance. With the assistance of members of the PA-Department of Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Office of Veterans Affairs and the PA National Guard Policy, Plans, and Legislation Office, Congressmen Dent pined and thanked roughly 30 Vietnam Veterans that attended this program. The event was well advertised through postings on social media and spreading the word through Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) such as the VFW, American Legion, and AM VETS to name a few. Venue was ideal, plenty of parking and able to accommodate the handicap attendees. This program was unique from many others we have done because of the informational and educational approach (focused for Veterans). This was a huge success in educating our Veterans in regards to benefits and services available to them. Congressmen Dent was great to work with as well and it defiantly helped having a US Congressmen lead this event. Most of all we will be thanking them for their service and welcoming them home to a grateful nation. On May 21, 2016, Maramec Spring Park hosted a Veterans Free Fishing Day inviting veterans from across the state of Missouri and the children of fallen soldiers for a day of free fishing. The Noah Coleman Chapter NSDAR teamed up with Ian Huff, an upcoming catering service, to provide a BBQ lunch to show our appreciation for their service, valor, and sacrifice to our nation. Over 150 veterans and family members participated in the day's event. The Noah Coleman Chapter NSDAR also sat up a table with information on the Commemoration. They were able to present and honor 23 Vietnam Veterans with a Commemorative Lapel Pin, welcoming them home, and thanking them for their service on behalf of a greatful Nation. They also thanked the veterans spouses for their service and sacrifice while their husbands and wives were deployed. Several veterans were very grateful and told us of their experiences while serving, both good and bad. One veteran stated that he has been wanting one of the Vietnam Veteran lapel pins, but didn't know where to get one. He broke down and cried when he was presented with the pin and was very grateful that we honored him. After a day of good food, trout fishing, and good conversation by all, the day was a great success as we honored our veterans and their spouses.Media coverage by the local radio station and newspapers were present.

Then the Veteran Service Officer read all six names of the men who gave the ultimate sacrifice, along with their branch of service, date of enlistment, and date of death. This was followed by a moment of silence and the tolling of a bell. Because we were only able to locate family members of two of the men, the families of the two were asked to come forward and were presented with the certificate and pin provided by the commemoration. Both families were very appreciative and receptive. We also had veterans from Korea and Desert Storm present. They were also recognized and thanked for their service.
