To thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War, including personnel who were held as prisoners of war or listed as missing in action, for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States and to thank and honor the families of these veterans.
Nutrition and Food Services provided steak and lobster dinners to all residents of the Community Living Centers, Domiciliary, Veterans Recovery Center, Adult Day Health Care program, mobile van Adult Day Mobile Health Care and those served in the dining hall facility. Over 175 Commemorative meals were provided to Veterans.
Events were held successfully on March 29 at the Canandaigua VAMC and Monroe Community Hospital with approximately 425 people in total attendance. 60 individuals attended the Canandaigua VAMC event and 365 attended the Rochester event.
Canandaigua VAMC: Norbert Rappl , Major General; Michael Swartz, Interim Medical Center Director and facility leadership thanked approximately 35 Vietnam Veterans and provided them a commemorative pin. The following services and organizations coordinated the event. Chaplain Services; Voluntary Services; Public Affairs; American Legion Post 34 provided cake; Jack Jacobson, Bag piper.
Monroe Community Hospital: The event was organized with community partners to include: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 20, Patriot Guard Riders, Monroe County Veterans Service Agency, Monroe Community Hospital, Rochester Vet Center, Chaplain and Voluntary Services, Public Affairs, and WROC-Channel 8 news anchor.
Medical of Honor recipient, Gary Beikirch; Monroe County Executive, Cheryl Dinolfo; Medical Center Interim ,Director Michael Swartz; thanked approximately 200 Vietnam Veterans and provided them commemorative pins and certificates. Vietnam Veterans, family and community that attended were provided a buffet of appetizers and refreshments prior to the event and desserts and refreshments following the event to enjoy fellowship.
