VA Hudson Valley HCS held the first Vietnam War Commemoration at the FDR Montrose campus, on June 20, 2016, under a bright sunny summer day, to honor, recognize and thank our Hudson Valley Vietnam Veterans and their families. The day was a great success. Total sign-in attendees: 204, total sign-in Vietnam Veterans: 110. Event was held outside under a rented 30 x 60 tent with 200 chairs to accommodate the attendees and guests. Guest speaker was Donald Blaine Smith, Brigadier General, US Army (Retired) Putnam County, NY Sheriff, VA Hudson Valley Medical Center Director Margaret Caplan delivered opening comments, Master of Ceremony was Michael Kelly, Vietnam Era Veteran (Army),VA Hudson Valley MyHealtheVet Coordinator, American Legion Hawthorne Chapter 112 presented the colors, Willie Nazario, National Sr. Vice Commander Military Order of Purple Heart, National Anthem, God Bless America and musical entertainment performed by MSgt Mary Kay Messenger, United States Military Academy Band Vocalist/Operations NCO, West Point, NY, Invocation by Rev. Joseph Westfall, VA Hudson Valley Chief Chaplain Service, Sheldon Rector, Vietnam Veteran (Air Force), VA Hudson Valley volunteer, read the President's Proclamation, US Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D17) was introduced, the Fallen Soldier Tribute was dedicated by Dan Griffin, Director, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 49, TAPS performed by Ron Jenkins, Vietnam Era Veteran (Air Force), VA Hudson Valley EMS employee. Finger food and ceremony cakes and cookies donated by Westchester County Veterans Advisory Board Committee and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 137. Guest speaker and medical center director personally handed out Vietnam War commemorative eagle pins to each Vietnam Veteran in attendance and thanked them for their service. Personalize certificates
