These pins will be used for pinning ceremonies to honor and thank Vietnam Veterans who are in hospice care with our organization. All Veterans we serve are recognized with a "thank you" flag-pinning ceremony to honor their service; it would be especially nice to have a specific pin for the Vietnam Veterans. We also attempt to have as many family members as possible present for these bedside pinning ceremonies: they are often quite emotional, as this is a final opportunity for the service of these brave men and women to be acknowledged. This event was a great success! We wanted to recognize our own five staff and hospice volunteers who are Vietnam Veterans, and we wanted to surprise them with the honor on Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day (March 30). The presentation of the Vietnam Veteran lapel pin, a personalized certificate and a bumper sticker. A special ceremony and reading were done at the beginning of a presentation on Honoring Veterans at the End of Life - a mandatory in-service for our hospice volunteers - that was intentionally scheduled on that date. We had asked the Veterans to be present just so we could introduce them to the group assembled for the program. Our CEO read a tribute to them, and they were pinned and thanked, and received a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. The five Vietnam Veterans who were honored were Army (3) and Navy (2). Photos were taken and included in our organization's weekly newsletter distributed to 900+ staff and 1500+ volunteers.

Families were appreciative of the efforts of the staff putting the event together for their love ones. Also, throughout the event, staff were interacting with Veterans and family thanking them for their great service and sacrifice for this Country. To thank and honor Veterans of the Vietnam War. Highlight the service of the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. Honor the Vietnam War Era Veterans. Recognize our allies during the Vietnam War. The main problem was the weather. It looks like rain most of the day, but it was a great day overall. Many of the Vietnam veterans were surprised and some were brought to tears. We heard many stories. Families told us about what they did while their loved one was in Vietnam. Most veterans were from Wolcott and were treated well when they returned home in Wolcott. They did have stories about other places in the U.S. Two veterans served as medics and were stationed in Germany because of their faith. They worked on many wounded from Vietnam. They were not going to take anything until our President told them we were honoring Vietnam Era veterans. The two medics cried as they remembered all the wounded they had treated. It seemed we learned as much from the veterans as they did from us. We talked about bracelets, sending letters, improvement to medicine and equipment. At one time, we had a circle of veterans exchanging stories. We all enjoyed the day. We also had a veterans service van so they could check on their benefits and the DAV was there too. Co-hosted by White County Veterans Service Office

Some even were presented at the Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi. Our DAR members have had great experiences in making personal presentations. To commemorate and honor Viet Nam veterans and their family for service and sacrifice at the 4 July celebration. 3July2016: CSM Spencer and SFC Lovelady attended Braves vs Marlins baseball game at Ft Bragg, NC courtesy of AUSA partner. Publicity for the VWC during the game was extremely minimal. The announcers recognized all veterans but did not specifically recognize VN veterans. Recommendations: Corrdination between VWC and MLB for any further events w/ them instead of using the CPP as a conduit. Hang a VWC banner on outer ballpark/home-run walls. Coordinate VWC script with MLB for in game announcements. 4July2016: Team hosted by Braxton Bragg Ch AUSA. Manned booth and presented materials and lapel pins at the Ft Bragg 4th of July celebration. Great location. Majority of time was spent w/ active duty SMs and families. Large number stating that a family member served during the VN War. CP and VWC members presented approx 100 lapel pins. Weather halted all activities in the evening. Recommendations: Sooner coordination w/ PAO and announcers for public broadcasting of booth location and info. Plan a short ceremony during the days activities to formally present lapel pins. Produce materials that state "Join the Nation...Thank a Vietnam Veteran!" These would appeal to a broader range of generations.
