The Veterans at the Bella Terra Medical Residences are often unable to walk or be transported w/life support to other Veteran Programs in the city, of which there are several, one at Southern Utah University and the other at the Cedar City Veterans Wall located at the end of 200 North/Freedom Boulevard where five (World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and Enduring Freedom) Veteran Memorials stand to honor our local service men and women. Bald Eagle is in its 14th year of partnering with Bella Terra staff to provide punch, cups, 12 dozen cookies, napkins, lap blankets, Thank You for your Service cards, and small American Flags presented with a salute by the National Guard (Triple Deuce) Colorguard or SUU ROTC Cadets to each WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Grenada, Iran, Iraqi, Afghanistan War Veteran. Bella Terra Director Greets and Welcomes, Canyon View Middle School Choir sings and two or three Canyon View High School students give short Patriotic speeches saying thank you for your service and how much their service has meant to them. Each Student eats many cookies but shakes the hands of the Veterans and says face to face "Thank You for your Service", as do Bald Eagle members who attend before leaving the program. With the completion of Southern Utah Veteran Home in St, George,Utah 50 miles south, many of our area Veterans transferred, leaving a handful to honor. Families of the Veterans often attend and periodically, military memorabilia displays are set out to see uniforms, pictures, letters, and medals. Veterans to ill or tired to attend have color guard and a DAR lady go to their room, present and thank. Take a hanky!
