The Commandery conducted its 1st presentations for 2017 to Vietnam Veterans nominated by the Hawaii Disabled American Veterans. LTC Curtis Manchester awarded the medals to:
HM3 Donald G. Wood. From Oct. 16, 1964 to Nov. 8, 1965, HM3 Wood served with the 1st Bn, 9th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He returned for a 2nd tour with the USS Tripoli (LPH10) from Jul. 20, 1966 to Aug. 6, 1966, and again for a third tour with the USS Tripoli from Aug. 6, 1966 to Dec. 4, 1967. After leaving the Navy, HM3 Wood devoted himself to Community Service, supporting Veterans causes such as Mentor in Judge Kubo's Veterans Treatment Court for several years helping other Veterans turn their lives around. HM3 Wood has served as the DAV Hawaii Health Services/Transportation Network Coordinator for the past 3 years.
SSG Robert B. Kent. From Feb. 15, 1966 to Mar. 15, 1967, SSG Kent served with the 25th Inf. Div, in Cu chi. He returned for a 2nd tour with the 525th MI Group from Apr. 20, 1972 to Mar. 15, 1973 in Nhi Trang. After retiring from he Army, SSG Kent devoted himself to Community Service, supporting Veterans causes as the Hawaii DAV, Oahu Veterans Council, the 50th Vietnam War Planning Committee, he Freedom Riders Motorcycle Honor Guard, and the Hawaii Veterans Treatment Court.
1SG Sammy C. Houseberg. From Sept. 11, 1966 to Sept 9, 1967, 1SG Houseberg served with the 1/5 Infantry, 25th Inf. Div, in Cu chi. He returned for a 2nd tour with the 1st Signal Bde, from July 4, 1969 to July 3, 1970 at Cam Ranh Bay. After retiring from the Army, 1SG Houseberg devoted himself to Community Service, supporting Veterans causes as a member and Chairman of several committees with the Hawaii Disabled American Veterans, a mentor for the Hawaii Veterans Treatment Court. He also served his local community as a board member of the Pacific Palisades Community Board.
