12:00 AM - 12:00 AM
WTVI PBS Charlotte will host a special preview of “The Vietnam War,” a 10-part, 18-hour documentary directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, followed by a sneak preview of PBS Charlotte’s documentary, “Vietnam in the Carolinas,” on Sept. 7 in Central Piedmont Community College’s Dale F. Halton Theater.
In an immersive 360-degree narrative, Burns and Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. “The Vietnam War,” premiering on PBS Charlotte on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m., features testimony from nearly 100 witnesses, including many Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as Vietnamese combatants and civilians from both the winning and losing sides.
Following the screening, attendees will be treated to a special preview of “Vietnam in the Carolinas,” a 30-minute PBS Charlotte documentary by Producer Jeff Sonier and Videographer Doug Stacker, which highlights stories of local people whose lives were impacted by the Vietnam War. Viewers will hear from a veteran wounded during a grenade attack, the founder of a Vietnam anti-war group, retired journalist Haney Howell who reported from the battlefields of Vietnam and more.
“This event gives PBS Charlotte the opportunity to show local Vietnam veterans how much we appreciate their service,” said Amy Burkett, general manager, PBS Charlotte. “We encourage the entire community to come out and join us in celebrating these unsung heroes.”
We will have a special recognition of Vietnam veterans who are present. A dessert reception will follow the event.
