The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

Farmington has over 200 Vietnam veterans living in the community but there is no veterans organization for them to gather and meet. The veterans will be able to to do this when they attend the "Bring your own brown bag" lunches which will be held at the Farmington Town Hall from 11 am to 1 pm the second Wednesday of each month until December 2017. The main focus is to give the veterans a place where they can casually gather and share but a short program will be designed by sometimes inviting guest speakers. The local DAR chapter will present certificates to all Vietnam veterans who attend.

A special Vietnam War Commemorative Quilt has been produced and will be on display from May of 2016 through October 2017. At the dedication of the quilt, members of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War will take part in the dedication as well as witness the dedication. Custer is a tourist destination in South Dakota and the museum is heavily visited so the display will be seen by 1000 minimum people.

We will be holding our event here in Grayling, MI on POW/MIA flag day 16th of September 2016. We will be having an event with vendors, shuttle rides for vets etc to the movie theater in town. We plan to talk of the importance of the pow flag and families. We also plan to have several Veteran speakers. Then we will ask all Veitnam Veterans to line up, and walk across the stage where we will shake their hands, present them with their pin etc. We also plan to continue to welcome them home each and every time we have a Veitnam Veteran in the office. We want to be able to do the same whether they are able to attend the event or not. Complete program, celebrating the era. Walking in we printed all posters from partner portal for the veterans to look at. Michigan National Guard, had 3 volunteers in dress blues to usher people to their seats. We did have a local newspaper in attendance. As they were seated music/military videos of the era were playing on the big screen. Complete program agenda attached. All attendees were very pleased. Response from 3 of the 5 local veterans lost in the war. Did have videos to play between speakers. After Action Review: - Not enough time to look at posters of info before ushers put them in seats. - Request RSVP from the very beginning for vets in attendance - Prior rehearsal, even though it could not have ran better - Prior instruction to speakers pertaining to mic and audio equipment - Better coordination of volunteers to set up/tear down event

The California Surf Museum will be opening an exceptional exhibition Memorial Day, May 29th 2017. This exhibit will highlight the surfing experience during the conflict in Vietnam at R&R locations such as China Beach, the perspective of surfers serving "in-country", those back home and the Veterans returning to the surf after their tour of duty. The exhibit seeks to capture the unique surfing of the era, what it meant to those Veterans and how they were able to use surfing as a healing mechanism.

Exhibit-opening event Your Story, His Story, the Legacy: Vietnam’s POW/MIA Wives Sunday, May 7 – 4 p.m Exhibit: In the late 1960s, POW/MIA wives bucked government protocol and challenged the traditional role of “military wife.” These courageous women led by Sybil Stockdale on the West Coast, Jane Denton, Louise Mulligan, and Phyllis Galanti on the East Coast and later Helene Knapp in the Interior West organized to form the National League of POW/MIA Families. The women worked with Congress and the Nixon administration to demand accounting for their husbands and pursue their safe return after years of imprisonment and torture by the North Vietnamese. Curated by 2017 Dole Archives Curatorial Fellow Heath Hardage Lee, and based on her upcoming book, The Reluctant Sorority: a True Story of Survival and Rescue from the Homefront (2019, St. Martin’s Press), this special exhibition features documents, photos, oral histories and memorabilia from the Dole Archives, personal collections of POW/MIA families, and other institutions.

I travel the State of Arkansas attending small town Masonic Lodges through coordination with the local Lodge Secretary and conduct a Vietnam Era Veteran Ceremony of Remembrance and Appreciation from a Grateful Nation. During the State Grand Lodge I handed out 118 Lapel Pins to Vietnam Veterans and am now traveling the state attending local lodge meetings where smaller ceremonies are conducted with 5-10 veterans both male and female are invited to the ceremonies and have been provided the lapel pin. Anticipate visiting 75 lodges.

Event at Chapter Meeting with invited Vietnam Veterans and wives; Our chapter Members honor Vietnam Veterans in public when we see a Veteran with a baseball cap that says Vietnam Veteran we give them a pin and proclamation...although this is not the dignified setting for an official event, every Veteran we have honored walking on the street, shopping in a public plac, attending another event,has been thrilled and touched that someone carries with them the small tokens of a pin and proclamation to honor them. We usually say "Welcome Home" and engage in conversation if the Veteran is willing.

Throughout the year, members of VFW Post 9835, during various events and opportunities, identify Vietnam Veterans and present them, with due ceremony, with the commemorative lapel pins. To date (since 1-1-17) 22 Vietnam Veterans have been recognized (names can be provided) and our supply of pins has been exhausted. Between now and the end of the year, our Post expects to identify more veterans throughout Fauquier County (and elsewhere - I keep pins in my car when I travel for distribution) and we need a resupply of lapel pins. No other support or supplies are necessary. On July 7, the town of Warrenton will host a special salute to Veterans and it is expected than numerous opportunities will arise to present pins to those who have not yet received one.

I travel to VA Clinics and Hospitals and pin Vietnam Veterans as they await their appointments...sometimes 3 to 7, and other times as many as 28. Can you get a letter of Proclamation signed by President Trump as soon as possible. Veterans do not want the Obama signed letter. Also, we have walk-ins at the Museum of Military History so those are usually done one-on-one, or as a group of up to 40 or 50 at one of our events. We also have July 4th, POW-MIA Day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Commemoration Day coming up. The visitors at the Museum usually offer, "My Grampa/Dad/Brother/Husband served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. Now, I something to offer families of Vietnam Vets. So, thank you for that!

The Grand Valley Combined Honor Guard provides Military Honors at funerals for veterans. Almost half of the services at this time are Vietnam Veterans. We give a pin to the veterans who served during the Vietnam War that attend the services. We only have a 48 hour notice for the services, and would like to receive surviving spouse pins for the spouses of the Vietnam Veterans. Of the 157 services to date, 66 are Vietnam Era. The commemorative flag is at every Vietnam Era service.Unknown, often the media comes to the Quarterly Memorial Service, the next one will be October 2. In the past we have had great coverage.

The Patriot Guard Riders and the American legion Riders Groups honor Veterans at the request of the families during the memorial tributes at end of life. The Ride captain has each sector's Ride Captain remain in charge of the presentation and honors given at the funeral ceremonies. The families receive the Presidential Proclamation and family members receive the tin pins. With the addition now available each spouse will receive the certificate of honors certificate with the name of the deceased Veteran in beautiful calligraphy added as requested. Since each death is as needed the certificates are printed on nice weight card stock and inscribed with date of presentation. The families were very impacted that this could be done even at the time of memorialization. This order is for one quarter of their yearly missions. This also helps instill in the local funeral homes the importance of final honors given at this time for the Veteran and the lasting memory it adds to the service. These missions are completed free of charge to the family. It is out of respect only.

The 362nd Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (TEWS) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its EC-47 airborne radio direction finding mission and unit activation during the Vietnam War on February 1, 1967 at Pleiku AB, South Vietnam. Squadron veterans will attend shows, reunion photo and story telling sessions, and have free time to reminisce. The EC-47 History Site will present an overview of the 50th Vietnam War Commemoration Program and lead a special recognition program to welcome home all the veterans attending...and a big Thank You to their families. The Eastern Iowa Honor Flights leave from the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids at 6:30 AM and return about 10:30 PM on the same day. The current estimate is that there are 105 Vietnam veterans expected to participate in the two flights. DAR Certificates and lapel pins will given to all those eligible. Currently the flights are full and no further reservations will be taken. In the past, the Honor Flights were for WWII and Korean veterans. These are the first that are mainly Vietnam Veterans.

We will have an event table within the Veterans Muster area where I will offer both Vietnam Veterans and family to pin them on site. The Veterans Coffees are offered each month. Colonel Joseph Winston Chapter DAR often attends. We offer thanks to all veterans who attend. We explain the Vietnam 50th Commemoration and distribute commemorative materials. If Vietnam era veterans have not previously received their lapel pin, those are presented. This time, we plan to present 2 surviving spouse pins and certificates during the program. One of the surviving spouse will also receive their lapel pin, as they served during Vietnam at the same time their husband was in country Vietnam. *** NO SURVIVING SPOUSE pins nor Veteran lapel pins needed, as I have already received them.

Project 425 is a group of Vietnam Veterans that have a restored UH-1h Huey Helicopter that flew over 2000 hours in Vietnam. We display this vehicle along with other military vehicles at many private/public events during the year. We always have Vietnam Veterans coming up to us at these events and talking about their experiences. We want to insure that any Vietnam Veteran we encounter who has not received the Label Pin to get one. The pins are presented by either myself or MG Wayne Jackson who is a member of our group. We have 10 events scheduled during the 4th QTR. I have attached a separate page listing these 10 events. It is difficult to anticipated numbers due to the public events i.e. Air Show or Parade.

The Honor Flights fly WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veterans for free to Washington, DC to visit the memorials. They are given a bag of goodies on their way home to mimic mail call. Included are "thank you's", etc. The Samuel Bryan Chapter folds pocket flags for all veterans on board and would like to include lapel pins for Vietnam Veterans.

Vietnam Veterans were able to show their military items, photos, scrapbooks and memorabilia. Veterans moved some of their items out to Commemoration shows. Lapeer County Commemoration group moved items from museum to exhibits and back to museum through the 3 years. On special days Vietnam Vets were at the museum to greet people and talk to them about the exhibit the last being 12/20/17.
