The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

We will be holding our event here in Grayling, MI on POW/MIA flag day 16th of September 2016. We will be having an event with vendors, shuttle rides for vets etc to the movie theater in town. We plan to talk of the importance of the pow flag and families. We also plan to have several Veteran speakers. Then we will ask all Veitnam Veterans to line up, and walk across the stage where we will shake their hands, present them with their pin etc. We also plan to continue to welcome them home each and every time we have a Veitnam Veteran in the office. We want to be able to do the same whether they are able to attend the event or not. Complete program, celebrating the era. Walking in we printed all posters from partner portal for the veterans to look at. Michigan National Guard, had 3 volunteers in dress blues to usher people to their seats. We did have a local newspaper in attendance. As they were seated music/military videos of the era were playing on the big screen. Complete program agenda attached. All attendees were very pleased. Response from 3 of the 5 local veterans lost in the war. Did have videos to play between speakers. After Action Review: - Not enough time to look at posters of info before ushers put them in seats. - Request RSVP from the very beginning for vets in attendance - Prior rehearsal, even though it could not have ran better - Prior instruction to speakers pertaining to mic and audio equipment - Better coordination of volunteers to set up/tear down event

Event at Chapter Meeting with invited Vietnam Veterans and wives; Our chapter Members honor Vietnam Veterans in public when we see a Veteran with a baseball cap that says Vietnam Veteran we give them a pin and proclamation...although this is not the dignified setting for an official event, every Veteran we have honored walking on the street, shopping in a public plac, attending another event,has been thrilled and touched that someone carries with them the small tokens of a pin and proclamation to honor them. We usually say "Welcome Home" and engage in conversation if the Veteran is willing.

Throughout the year, VFW Post 9835 actively seeks out Vietnam Veterans who have not yet been presented their Congressional Lapel Pins and do so with ceremony. So far this year (2017), 53 Vietnam Veterans have been so identified and honored. The Post requires a resupply of Pins (we have 4 left) so that this program can continue. We will have our three-day Veterans Day Poppy Drive coming up in early November and this is always a great opportunity to identify and recognize fellow Vietnam Veterans

K/C provide dinner/lunches for the honor flights, our chapter attends to help serve & clean up, while we are there we identify and recognize the veterans from the various eras. In this specific case, we will recognize the VN Veterans and present the commemoration pin, stickers, etc. **This is the spring session, they usually have 9 dinners or lunches, as of now only 4 are set up, so we are using estimate numbers to account for the 9 events. Past meals have shown that anywhere from 25-100 VN Veterans are with each honor flight, so I am being conservative on my request for the supplies. I know that I can request additional should we run low.

This exhibit features traditional cultural objects made by the Montagnards of Vietnam representing a way of life that has disappeared. Named “mountain people” by French colonials, the Montagnard people comprise several tribes that made their homeland in the central highlands of Vietnam. They lived a stone age existence in relative isolation from the majority Vietnamese in the lowlands and from foreigners until 1887, when Vietnam became part of French Indochina. During the mid-twentieth century, the central highlands gained strategic military value because the Ho Chi Minh Trail traversed the region. Thus, the Montagnards suddenly experienced contact with the outside world, which meant the growth of modern infrastructure and communication and the end of their traditional ways. When the United States became involved in the Vietnam War, US Army Special Forces recruited Montagnards to fight side by side with them to help block the flow of supplies to the Viet Cong along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. After US forces withdrew from Vietnam, Montagnards continued to fight the Vietnamese; many were forced to flee as refugees. During the 1980s-2000s, US Army veterans sponsored their resettlement in North Carolina. Now our state is home to the largest Montagnard population outside of Vietnam.

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs operates two mobile outreach vans that support military and Veteran events throughout the Commonwealth. During outreach events the outreach teams encounter a significant number of Vietnam Veterans. During the past two years we have been honoring these Veterans by providing bumper stickers and pins at outreach events. When a Veteran takes a bumper sticker or pin, the team thanks them for their service and sacrifice. We have been honored to be able to provide this service to the Veterans. The St. Clair County Department of Veterans Affairs is calling on veterans of the Vietnam era to claim their honorary Vietnam veteran lapel pins in St. Clair County and surrounding counties. 2 of our chapter members are qualified for the Honor Flight Buses. We tried thus last year, and it was amazing! they will be recognized on the bus as it is moving towards Washington D.C. After their welcome/introduction, each "era" is welcomed and the Vietnam Veterans will receive their pins during either a stop at the Wall or at one of the other memorial stops (depending what is on the tour schedule). Currently, only flights from April-June have been released for sign ups which is why I dated it accordingly above. 14 April is the first tour.

In addition to honoring our patients for their service to our country, we will be thanking our Vietnam Veteran patients for sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. There are a number of patients who have never been recognized or thanked, and our dedicated group of volunteers, who are veterans themselves (currently 2 who served in Vietnam in combat), conduct a meaningful presentation to the patient and their family. This also creates a time for the patient to share stories and conduct life review which is critical at end-of-life. Many times, the family has never heard these stories and now have a meaningful memory to hold and the patient is now leaving a legacy that will live long after.

The 55th reunion of Panama Canal Society/school reunion will be an excellent opportunity to thank the many Viet Nam Veterans and their families for their service. Over 1000 attend. Our member is traveling to Panama May 1 and will be arranging for a Viet Nam Veteran Program during the reunion. With the certificates, pins, and displays, the veterans will know they are appreciated, and their families will learn more about their service. The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs will host the 10th Annual Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day Ceremony on Monday, May 7, 2018. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial located south of the Iowa State Capitol building in Des Moines. This year’s 50th Commemorative Ceremony will honor all those who have served in the Vietnam War Era, and especially those who have died as a result of their service. This includes the “hidden casualties of Vietnam” whose names are not eligible for inscription upon the Wall: these casualties are honored by the Memory Plaque, dedicated on the Vietnam Wall grounds. Dan Gannon, Chair of the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs, will officiate, and John Rowan, Vietnam Veterans of America National President, will be the Honored Keynote Speaker. Governor Kim Reynolds will also be speaking. The Jean Marie Cardinell Chapter will be on hand to pin commemorative lapel pins on those who served. Disabled American Veterans (DAV) will host a free luncheon following the ceremony at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center (Veterans Memorial Auditorium) located at 833 5th Ave Des Moines 50309. Request additional bumper stickers for the Vietnam Veterans who come into the St. Louis VA Regional Benefit Office. We placed extra bumper stickers on the counter where Veterans sign in and they were gone in days. The Vietnam Veterans who came in were very appreciative. After the office ran out, Veterans continued to inquire if we had any left.

The Governor of Kansas signs an annual proclamation recognizing the service and sacrifices of Vietnam War veterans. The event is held in conjunction with Kansas Military Appreciation Day at the state capitol. Of these, approximately 200 are expected to be Vietnam Veterans. Director notified that 275 Vietnam veterans would be visiting the Vn Veterans memorial Wall today. MG(R) Jackson, MG(R) Aylward, and Steve Castleton (NY Jets) met five bus loads of Vietnam veterans at the entrance of the walk path to the Wall to thank and honor the Vietnam Veterans.

During every Navy Week and Executive Engagement we plan and execute events to recognize Vietnam Veterans and to present them with the commemoration pins. Tampa Bay Navy Week is scheduled for May 7-13, 2018, coincident with the Tampa Bay Airfest, and is designed to give area residents an opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people and its importance to national security and prosperity. This was the 5th successful year of the Vietnam War Cadet Essay Contest, which provides Cadets the opportunity to write an essay for publication in one of 3 categories. This year, Cadets from Farrington and Punahou received recognition for their excellent essays. Congratulations to those recognized for 2018: 1st Place – Cadet Emily Wu, Punahou Army JROTC, Category I; 2nd Place – Cadet Uilani Kailahi (Farrington High School Army JROTC); 3rd place – Cadet Caroline Pickart (Kalaheo High School Navy JROTC).. Runners-up: Cadet Kenneth Cera (Farrington High School Army JROTC) Honorable Mention, 2nd Runner-Up, Category I; Cadet Jeremi Pasamonte (Campbell High School Navy JROTC) Honorable Mention, 3rd Runner-Up, Category I; Cadet Christian Bianes-Delrosario (Kalaheo High School Navy JROTC) 4th Place Overall, 1st Runner-Up, Cate-gory I. Published in the June 2019 Commandery News at https://issuu.com/arthur82/docs/hawaii_commandery_mofw_news_jun_201 This event supported Objective #1 The cadets who placed received their awards at the annual Cadet Awards Ceremonies held in April and May, which are attended by Vietnam Veterans from various Veterans organizations who also assist in the presentations.
