The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

We will be holding our event here in Grayling, MI on POW/MIA flag day 16th of September 2016. We will be having an event with vendors, shuttle rides for vets etc to the movie theater in town. We plan to talk of the importance of the pow flag and families. We also plan to have several Veteran speakers. Then we will ask all Veitnam Veterans to line up, and walk across the stage where we will shake their hands, present them with their pin etc. We also plan to continue to welcome them home each and every time we have a Veitnam Veteran in the office. We want to be able to do the same whether they are able to attend the event or not. Complete program, celebrating the era. Walking in we printed all posters from partner portal for the veterans to look at. Michigan National Guard, had 3 volunteers in dress blues to usher people to their seats. We did have a local newspaper in attendance. As they were seated music/military videos of the era were playing on the big screen. Complete program agenda attached. All attendees were very pleased. Response from 3 of the 5 local veterans lost in the war. Did have videos to play between speakers. After Action Review: - Not enough time to look at posters of info before ushers put them in seats. - Request RSVP from the very beginning for vets in attendance - Prior rehearsal, even though it could not have ran better - Prior instruction to speakers pertaining to mic and audio equipment - Better coordination of volunteers to set up/tear down event

Event at Chapter Meeting with invited Vietnam Veterans and wives; Our chapter Members honor Vietnam Veterans in public when we see a Veteran with a baseball cap that says Vietnam Veteran we give them a pin and proclamation...although this is not the dignified setting for an official event, every Veteran we have honored walking on the street, shopping in a public plac, attending another event,has been thrilled and touched that someone carries with them the small tokens of a pin and proclamation to honor them. We usually say "Welcome Home" and engage in conversation if the Veteran is willing.

As Vietnam Veterans come to our office to file disability claims we are able to present them with their Vietnam Pin, the program brochure and bumper sticker. I can't tell you how much they appreciate it. It is hard to say how many Vietnam Vets we see each day as they come to our office for appointments, tax issues, DD-214 questions, Loans. K/C provide dinner/lunches for the honor flights, our chapter attends to help serve & clean up, while we are there we identify and recognize the veterans from the various eras. In this specific case, we will recognize the VN Veterans and present the commemoration pin, stickers, etc. **This is the spring session, they usually have 9 dinners or lunches, as of now only 4 are set up, so we are using estimate numbers to account for the 9 events. Past meals have shown that anywhere from 25-100 VN Veterans are with each honor flight, so I am being conservative on my request for the supplies. I know that I can request additional should we run low.

This exhibit features traditional cultural objects made by the Montagnards of Vietnam representing a way of life that has disappeared. Named “mountain people” by French colonials, the Montagnard people comprise several tribes that made their homeland in the central highlands of Vietnam. They lived a stone age existence in relative isolation from the majority Vietnamese in the lowlands and from foreigners until 1887, when Vietnam became part of French Indochina. During the mid-twentieth century, the central highlands gained strategic military value because the Ho Chi Minh Trail traversed the region. Thus, the Montagnards suddenly experienced contact with the outside world, which meant the growth of modern infrastructure and communication and the end of their traditional ways. When the United States became involved in the Vietnam War, US Army Special Forces recruited Montagnards to fight side by side with them to help block the flow of supplies to the Viet Cong along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. After US forces withdrew from Vietnam, Montagnards continued to fight the Vietnamese; many were forced to flee as refugees. During the 1980s-2000s, US Army veterans sponsored their resettlement in North Carolina. Now our state is home to the largest Montagnard population outside of Vietnam.

The "Moving Wall" (1/2 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans memorial in Washington, DC) will be on display at historic Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana to pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives fighting for our freedom in the Republic of Vietnam. The "WALL" helps veterans remember their friends and comrades and the families remember and pay tribute to their fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts and cousins who never made it home. Most importantly, the Vietnam Veteran can revisit his/her memories about that time and deal with the emotions that have been laying dormant for too long.

The St. Clair County Department of Veterans Affairs is calling on veterans of the Vietnam era to claim their honorary Vietnam veteran lapel pins in St. Clair County and surrounding counties. The pins are often presented in ceremonies and group events, but we want any veteran who would not feel comfortable with the pomp and circumstance can simply submit their service information and receive their pin, either by mail, picking it up or some other convenient way.

2 of our chapter members are qualified for the Honor Flight Buses. We tried thus last year, and it was amazing! they will be recognized on the bus as it is moving towards Washington D.C. After their welcome/introduction, each "era" is welcomed and the Vietnam Veterans will receive their pins during either a stop at the Wall or at one of the other memorial stops (depending what is on the tour schedule). Currently, only flights from April-June have been released for sign ups which is why I dated it accordingly above. 14 April is the first tour.

In addition to honoring our patients for their service to our country, we will be thanking our Vietnam Veteran patients for sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. There are a number of patients who have never been recognized or thanked, and our dedicated group of volunteers, who are veterans themselves (currently 2 who served in Vietnam in combat), conduct a meaningful presentation to the patient and their family. This also creates a time for the patient to share stories and conduct life review which is critical at end-of-life. Many times, the family has never heard these stories and now have a meaningful memory to hold and the patient is now leaving a legacy that will live long after.

Since our article hit the local paper we are getting 33-requests per month by individuals (veterans or their family members) who hear about the Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins/proclamations and contact our department to request one. Our member is traveling to Panama May 1 and will be arranging for a Viet Nam Veteran Program during the reunion. The event is held in conjunction with Kansas Military Appreciation Day at the state capitol. During the next six months, VFW Post 9835 will be conducting recruitment and fund-raising activities at the town's First Friday events (June thru Nov) plus our semi-annual Buddy Poppy Fund raiser on 25-27 May. In addition, we will be promoting the Vietnam War specifically on 6 July. The First Friday that day is designated as a "Star Spangled First Friday" with emphasis on veterans from all wars. A specific set-up will be made to promote the Vietnam Commemoration. The Post continues to search out eligible Vietnam Veterans and present them with commemorative lapel pins (and pins to survivors). Year-to-date, 23 pins have been distributed and the Post's supply has dwindled down to 8. We need a resupply ASAP to be available by the 25th of May.

NMUSN's Cold War Gallery building features an exhibit on the Navy and the VN War, including a VN era SWIFT Boat. The Museum visitation tops 100,000/year. We are expecting to host at least 1,000 VN era Veterans this summer as attendees of Honor Flight tours that bring Veterans from around the country to Washington to visit military memorials and museums. We would like a VN 50th Flag to fly outside the Cold War Gallery, if an indoor flag is also available we'd display that indoors by the VN exhibit.

It is never too late to say “Thank You” for serving in the military. The Vietnam Veteran never received that - no simple acknowledgment of their personal sacrifice for military service to our country during the Vietnam War. So, in conjunction with the Defense Department’s ongoing 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War, the Georgia Department of Veterans Service, in partnership with the Office of Governor Nathan Deal, has created the Vietnam War Certificate of Honor program for these veterans. This ceremony will involve presentation of the Defense Department’s Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Lapel Pin and the State Certificate of Honor. Every Georgia veteran with honorable service during the Vietnam War (June 1, 1954 to May 15, 1975; dates established by the Defense Department’s Vietnam War Commemoration Program Office) is eligible to receive this certificate and lapel pin (This includes veterans with service in-country and those who served in other capacities). Each certificate is personalized with the Vietnam War veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, dates of service printed over the Seal of the State of Georgia and includes the official U.S. Department of Defense’s Vietnam War Commemorative Partner logo. They are signed by Governor Deal and GDVS Commissioner Mike Roby.

Honoring Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service, valor and sacrifice. Specifically individually recognize veteran hospice patients who are unable to attend larger public recognition ceremonies. 14 presentations done in 2018 and 8 done to date in 2019. Anticipate 2019 will exceed 2018 as seeing higher percent of Vietnam Veterans within hospice veteran population. Will provide end up end of year 2019 update with final numbers.
