The Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Trail is located in Price County and has 13 markers to represent the 13 years of service and sacrifice of the brothers and sisters in arms. The markers denote events of the war that were deemed important by Vietnam Veterans. The trail is a commemorative project to remind the public of the sacrifices made by this group of unheralded veterans.

We will be holding our event here in Grayling, MI on POW/MIA flag day 16th of September 2016. We will be having an event with vendors, shuttle rides for vets etc to the movie theater in town. We plan to talk of the importance of the pow flag and families. We also plan to have several Veteran speakers. Then we will ask all Veitnam Veterans to line up, and walk across the stage where we will shake their hands, present them with their pin etc. We also plan to continue to welcome them home each and every time we have a Veitnam Veteran in the office. We want to be able to do the same whether they are able to attend the event or not. Complete program, celebrating the era. Walking in we printed all posters from partner portal for the veterans to look at. Michigan National Guard, had 3 volunteers in dress blues to usher people to their seats. We did have a local newspaper in attendance. As they were seated music/military videos of the era were playing on the big screen. Complete program agenda attached. All attendees were very pleased. Response from 3 of the 5 local veterans lost in the war. Did have videos to play between speakers. After Action Review: - Not enough time to look at posters of info before ushers put them in seats. - Request RSVP from the very beginning for vets in attendance - Prior rehearsal, even though it could not have ran better - Prior instruction to speakers pertaining to mic and audio equipment - Better coordination of volunteers to set up/tear down event

Event at Chapter Meeting with invited Vietnam Veterans and wives; Our chapter Members honor Vietnam Veterans in public when we see a Veteran with a baseball cap that says Vietnam Veteran we give them a pin and proclamation...although this is not the dignified setting for an official event, every Veteran we have honored walking on the street, shopping in a public plac, attending another event,has been thrilled and touched that someone carries with them the small tokens of a pin and proclamation to honor them. We usually say "Welcome Home" and engage in conversation if the Veteran is willing.

K/C provide dinner/lunches for the honor flights, our chapter attends to help serve & clean up, while we are there we identify and recognize the veterans from the various eras. In this specific case, we will recognize the VN Veterans and present the commemoration pin, stickers, etc. **This is the spring session, they usually have 9 dinners or lunches, as of now only 4 are set up, so we are using estimate numbers to account for the 9 events. Past meals have shown that anywhere from 25-100 VN Veterans are with each honor flight, so I am being conservative on my request for the supplies. I know that I can request additional should we run low.

This exhibit features traditional cultural objects made by the Montagnards of Vietnam representing a way of life that has disappeared. Named “mountain people” by French colonials, the Montagnard people comprise several tribes that made their homeland in the central highlands of Vietnam. They lived a stone age existence in relative isolation from the majority Vietnamese in the lowlands and from foreigners until 1887, when Vietnam became part of French Indochina. During the mid-twentieth century, the central highlands gained strategic military value because the Ho Chi Minh Trail traversed the region. Thus, the Montagnards suddenly experienced contact with the outside world, which meant the growth of modern infrastructure and communication and the end of their traditional ways. When the United States became involved in the Vietnam War, US Army Special Forces recruited Montagnards to fight side by side with them to help block the flow of supplies to the Viet Cong along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. After US forces withdrew from Vietnam, Montagnards continued to fight the Vietnamese; many were forced to flee as refugees. During the 1980s-2000s, US Army veterans sponsored their resettlement in North Carolina. Now our state is home to the largest Montagnard population outside of Vietnam.

The St. Clair County Department of Veterans Affairs is calling on veterans of the Vietnam era to claim their honorary Vietnam veteran lapel pins in St. Clair County and surrounding counties. The pins are often presented in ceremonies and group events, but we want any veteran who would not feel comfortable with the pomp and circumstance can simply submit their service information and receive their pin, either by mail, picking it up or some other convenient way.

In addition to honoring our patients for their service to our country, we will be thanking our Vietnam Veteran patients for sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. There are a number of patients who have never been recognized or thanked, and our dedicated group of volunteers, who are veterans themselves (currently 2 who served in Vietnam in combat), conduct a meaningful presentation to the patient and their family. This also creates a time for the patient to share stories and conduct life review which is critical at end-of-life. Many times, the family has never heard these stories and now have a meaningful memory to hold and the patient is now leaving a legacy that will live long after.

As of 4/25/18, the Virginia War Memorial is expecting 920 veterans and family members to visit the Memorial in May and June as part of organized tour groups. Of these, approximately 200 are expected to be Vietnam Veterans. The 2018 edition of the Vectren Air Show will be held at the Dayton International Airport, Dayton, OH 23-24 June 2018. The event is for the entire family both veterans and non-veterans and family members. It will feature the US Navy Blue Angles and other military aircraft, helicopters and civilian aircraft performances. A wide variety of aircraft will be on display from a replica Wright Flyer along with modern military aircraft to the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation’s Vietnam UH-1 Huey and AH-1 Cobra helicopters. Our helicopters will be available for both static display and rides for the general public. Through our participation with our Vietnam Era helicopters we are able to educate and inform the attendees of the role helicopters played in the Vietnam War and to watch them fly and ride in if they so desire. It also gives us the opportunity to recognize our Vietnam and Vietnam Era Veterans and welcome them home.

During the next six months, VFW Post 9835 will be conducting recruitment and fund-raising activities at the town's First Friday events (June thru Nov) plus our semi-annual Buddy Poppy Fund raiser on 25-27 May. In addition, we will be promoting the Vietnam War specifically on 6 July. The First Friday that day is designated as a "Star Spangled First Friday" with emphasis on veterans from all wars. A specific set-up will be made to promote the Vietnam Commemoration. The Post continues to search out eligible Vietnam Veterans and present them with commemorative lapel pins (and pins to survivors). Year-to-date, 23 pins have been distributed and the Post's supply has dwindled down to 8. We need a resupply ASAP to be available by the 25th of May.

NMUSN's Cold War Gallery building features an exhibit on the Navy and the VN War, including a VN era SWIFT Boat. The Museum visitation tops 100,000/year. We are expecting to host at least 1,000 VN era Veterans this summer as attendees of Honor Flight tours that bring Veterans from around the country to Washington to visit military memorials and museums. We would like a VN 50th Flag to fly outside the Cold War Gallery, if an indoor flag is also available we'd display that indoors by the VN exhibit.

Navy Weeks bring a variety of events, equipment and personnel to a single city for a week-long series of engagements with the public, key influencers and organizations representing all sectors of the community. "During a Navy Week, 75 to 100 outreach events are coordinated with corporate, civic, government, education, media, veterans, community service and diversity organizations in the city," said Lt. Cmdr. Brett Dawson, NAVCO's event planning department head. "We bring in as much of the Navy as we can to raise awareness of the Navy, its mission and its importance to the public." These will be individual events for multiple Vietnam veterans. Throughout the year, we care for 20-30 Vietnam veterans. Unfortunately, many of them are bedbound or sick to go to a public event. Our goal is to gather family and friends around the Veteran for an honor ceremony.

Honoring Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service, valor and sacrifice. Specifically individually recognize veteran hospice patients who are unable to attend larger public recognition ceremonies. 14 presentations done in 2018 and 8 done to date in 2019. Anticipate 2019 will exceed 2018 as seeing higher percent of Vietnam Veterans within hospice veteran population. Will provide end up end of year 2019 update with final numbers.
