Presque Isle DAR Chapter, Erie, Pennsylvania honored 7 veterans of the specified time period with lapel pins and personalized certificates. In previous after action reports I should have mentioned that during the "meeting" part of the luncheon our chapter members speak about how much we appreciate their service. This is an example of one of the speeches MaryJane Koenig, Regent, made: "As we have said before, the Presque Isle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is proud to join with the 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration, the Department of Defense, President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, and the U.S. Congress to recognize a generation of service members. We continue to honor those who served our country during the Vietnam War, an era that spans from 1955 to 1975. Often, we say thank you for your service, but our gratitude is much much deeper.
You may have served vital roles in Vietnam, other parts of the world, or even stateside. We truly value the sacrifices that you all made. Whatever the service, all of you were affected in some way by that experience.
We are a better, stronger nation today because of the sacrifices that you, our veterans, made for this country.
Please accept these certificates and these lapel pins as a lasting memento of the nation’s thanks for your courage, honor, and dedicated service to our nation."
