May 10th through May 20th 2019, is the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Hamburger Hill. Our unit, 3rd Bn 187th Infantry Regiment, was the main Infantry unit engaged, with over 70% casualties, and 43 killed in action. We gather to honor our brothers every year in May at Ft. Campbell. Several events will be conducted May 14th through May 18th, on Ft. Campbell, and at the Riverview Inn, to include the active duty 3rd Battalion 187th Infantry soldiers and the Hamburger Hill Veterans and their support units from Vietnam. The special events will be the 'Pylon Ceremony' on Ft. Campbell, May 17th. This is the location of the '187 Infantry Memorial Wall and Grounds', it is located across from the Pratt Museum, Ft. Campbell. The wall contains every 'Rakkasan' killed in action from, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, including Canadians attached to the Rakkasans in the Gobal War on Terror. Full military honors will be conducted during this ceremony, including the presence of the entire 3/187th Infantry Battalion. On May 17th in the evening, a formal memorial dinner will be held, with a traditional reading of the names of the fallen from this battle and those killed since 9/11. A 31.87 mile march, the Iron Warrior Challenge, will be held in honor of our service May 15th. At all events, we will be recognized.
This is also the National Rakkasan Association Reunion, their purpose is to have this special Commermation of Hamburger Hill and Vietnam.
