Little Neck Douglaston Memorial Day Parade Committee and American Legion Post #103 are honored to invite you to participate and march in the 92nd annual Little Neck Douglaston Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, 2019.
Since 1927, rain or shine, our mission has been to pay homage to those who have died in defense of our freedom and the families who survive them. We are also proud to honor our active duty service men and women, and all veterans. Our 2019 theme is "What So Proudly We Hail” which honors the 205th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. We also continue to honor the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War, by recognizing the Vietnam Babylift mission at the Opening Ceremony and the Interfaith Service. We are honoring 2 Vietnam veterans as Parade Marshals and all local KIA/MIA Vietnam Veterans will be specially honored by individual folded flags carried by local JROTC members on behalf of VVA Chapter 32.
The day begins with the Interfaith Service at Zion Episcopal Church at 10 a.m. followed by the Wreath Laying ceremony at 11 a.m. Line up for the parade begins at 1 p.m. with the parade commencing at 2 p.m. The parade concludes with a closing ceremony.
Our featured branch of service is the United States Merchant Marine, underpinning our defense since the founding of our nation. Your participation in this year’s parade will help us to honor the mariners who have given their lives in defense of our country as they transported troops and supplies around the world.
Line-up begins at 1 p.m. along Northern Boulevard at one of four locations which will be determined for you at a later date. The parade steps off at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019 – rain or shine!
As always, free refreshments will be served after you march. The Closing Ceremony begins immediately after the parade and features a military band and impressive ceremonial units.
All ceremonies take place at the Divine Wisdom Academy school yard, Alameda Ave. and
