The Spirit of America Festival

08:00 AM - 11:00 PM

Point Mallard Park
2901 Point Mallard Drive
Decatur, AL , 35602

For the 45th year, the Spirit of America Festival promises to be the destination for free family fun on the 4th of July!

Originating during the height of the Vietnam War, this festival continues its mission of supporting patriotism and traditional American values. The 2011 festival theme of "I Pledge Allegiance" honors those individuals who have demonstrated their pledge to our nation through their service and sacrifice. The festival will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War and the 10th Anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001. The Spirit of America Festival is an event where we remember and honor our nation’s true heroes and celebrate our great spirit and traditions. As the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel has designated 2011 as The Year of Alabama Music, the event will also showcase the vast musical heritage our state. The Spirit of America Festival combines meaning, memory and mirth into a two-day event that offers something for the entire family!

This year’s event will be filled with all of the food, fun and fireworks that guests have always enjoyed, and the activities and pageantry associated with this Decatur tradition have garnered the event a significant reputation throughout the Southeast, with the festival being named as one of the "Top 20 Events in the Southeast" for July by the Southeast Tourism Society. Spend your entire day at the Spirit of America Festival, and enjoy live stage entertainment, an action-filled Children’s Area and our Boy Scout Celebration Area that will feature fabulous hands-on activities and demonstrations. Experience the true meaning of the day by attending the Spirit of America Awards Ceremony where annual awards are presented to recognize outstanding service and sacrifice for country and fellow man.

As day moves to evening, the festival atmosphere is heightened as the stage is set to display poise, intelligence, talent and character during the 41st annual Miss Point Mallard Pageant. To close this day of remembrance and celebration, the 2011 fireworks display will delight and dazzle as the night sky is illuminated and embers reflect over the beautiful Tennessee River. Join us in Decatur, Alabama as we celebrate the true "Spirit of America" that defines this special day!
