The Vietnam War Commemoration Oral History Project collects and preserves video-recorded interviews of Vietnam veterans and their family members. Their stories provide the public with a clearer picture of military service and the effect of that service on the people waiting back home. It is an opportunity to consider the individual experience of war and how Americans remember the war 50 years later. The range of experiences can also challenge conventional understandings of the war and the American service person.
The interviews available here have been edited for brevity and clarity. Unedited versions are on file with the Commemoration and with the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Viewers can also find interview segments embedded in the historical timeline section.
Search for oral history interviews by service. If you participated in the project, please understand that our videographers are still editing and eventually all of the interviews will be available online.
