James Hull

Vice Admiral Hull is the Chairman of the Foundation for Coast Guard History, a nonprofit association dedicated to fostering Coast Guard history.  Vice Admiral Hull is an independent consultant, serves on several boards, is presently on the Naval Studies Board of the National Academy of Science and is a past national Director of the Navy League. Prior to retiring from the Coast Guard, he was the Coast Guard Atlantic Area Commander and Commander, Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic.

ADM Hull is an Independent Consultant working with many companies regarding Homeland Security, National Defense, and Maritime Affairs. He serves or has served on several boards, panels, studies (i.e., Naval Studies Board of the National Academy Science, etc).  He has been a Senior Mentor/Expert supporting the United States Joint Forces Command's Joint Warfighting Center, NORTHCOM's Defense Support to Civil Authorities Course, the Coast Guards Flag and SES course for DHS and for the Marine Corps Command and Staff College.  He is a prior National Director of the Navy League and volunteered as the Chair of the Navy League's Coast Guard Affairs Committee and continues to participate in the development of their maritime policy statement.  He is the Chairman of the Foundation for Coast Guard History and an ex officio board member of the Navy Memorial.  In addition, he was the Grand Paramount of the Military Order of the CARABAO for 2007 and is a member of many service organizations.

Admiral Hull served as Commander, Coast Guard Atlantic Area and Commander, Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic until his retirement in the summer of 2004.  As the Senior Commander for all Coast Guard Forces east of the Rocky Mountains, Admiral Hull led the largest Coast Guard command and was responsible for the successful prosecution of all missions including law enforcement, defense and safety of life at sea.  Admiral Hull has served as a component like commander for numerous DOD Commanders to include CFFC, SOUTHCOM, NORTHCOM, JFCOM, and TRANSCOM. Admiral Hull saw service in Vietnam and has commanded three ships during his thirty-five years of service.  His ashore duty included tours such as the Executive Director for National Drug Interdiction Coordinator in the President's Office of Drug Control Policy, Head of the Coast Guard's Congressional and Governmental Affairs Office and as an Assistant Professor teaching at the Coast Guard Academy.  Admiral Hull has significant experience with the Department of Homeland Security.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, an MBA from the University of New Haven, a Masters of Operations Research and Statistics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and is graduate of the National War College.
