Walmart Joins The United States of America Vietnam War 50th Anniversary Commemoration
The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration is pleased to announce that Walmart will
help a grateful nation to thank and honor America’s Vietnam veterans and their families as part of
the Vietnam War 50th anniversary.
Walmart is among the initial organizations to join a growing and wide ranging list of Commemorative
Partners supporting the efforts of Congressionally chartered United States of America Vietnam War
Commemoration. In doing so, Walmart stores across the nation will have an important role as a
grateful nation thanks millions of Vietnam veterans and their loved ones for their service, valor
and sacrifice.
This Veterans Day weekend and during the 13-year duration of the commemoration, Walmart will
recognize thousands of their own associates and customers who have sacrificed for America either as
military service members or as a family member whose loved one served during the Vietnam War era or
in other warzones. As a Commemorative Partner, Walmart will help the commemoration effort by
holding events in hometowns across America to honor our Vietnam veterans where they live,
remembering the sacrifices of our heroes, especially those made by America’s Gold Star Families,
whose loved ones were killed during the war or were missing in action and remain unaccounted for.
Vietnam veteran and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Mick Kicklighter, director of the Vietnam
War Commemoration, said, "We welcome Walmart as a Commemorative Partner. Their support will help us
reach out across America to thank our Vietnam veterans, their families, and all who have served in
the defense of freedom."
"Walmart values and respects the honorable service of all our veterans and their families, and we
have a longstanding commitment to helping our veterans reintegrate into their communities when they
return home in order to have a better life," said Gary Profit, senior director of military programs
for
Walmart. "Walmart is honored to play a leading role as a Commemorative Partner during the 50th
anniversary of the Vietnam War. Over the next several years, Walmart and our associates will help
the communities we serve and a grateful nation thank and honor our heroes."
communities we serve and a grateful nation thank and honor our heroes."
Nov.10, 2012, more than 3,600 Walmart stores from coast to coast will hold ceremonies honoring
their associates who served during the Vietnam War and in other wars along with their family
members. Local veterans groups and other organizations will also be invited to attend and show
their support for our Vietnam War veterans and the many other generations of warriors who have
defended freedom and liberty around the world.
In addition, this December Walmart will honor America’s fallen heroes as a supporter of the Wreaths
Across America program. To honor the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, this year the United
States of America Vietnam War Commemoration and other veterans organizations will join them in
laying remembrance wreaths on thousands of gravesites at hundreds of military cemeteries across the
nation from Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. to the National Memorial Cemetery of
the Pacific in
Honolulu, Hawaii.
